A little devastated that @T2TeaOfficial is closing forever in the UK (even if they had already got rid of Watermelon Sorbet!), but glad I managed to get a big final order in before it did. Our annual pilgrimage in Melbourne is going to be even more important now, @heab!

We know so little about how our own Solar System came to be. Cameras from the Global Fireball Observatory in Alberta recorded the first rocky meteoroid ever from the Oort cloud, shedding some light on early formation. Fantastic video from the team here: youtu.be/X6KHS1AmMpw

A 2 kg rocky meteoroid observed in February 2021 is shown to be coming directly from the Oort cloud, indicative of a high ice/rock ratio there (1-20%) and supportive of a massive proto-asteroid belt scenario. Vida (@meteordoc) et al.: nature.com/articles/s4155…

Where did the last 10 years go? 7/12/12 I arrived in Perth, landed in the morning, turned up at Curtin University, and officially started my PhD (so I could start getting paid!) Now I'm managing the project I came here to build, and met some amazing people along the way. ❤️

Pretty excited to have one of the few ARC #DP23 projects funded this year with @ProfAndyTomkins - "Expanding the Foundation of Planetary Science". Now we'll get to recover all those lonely meteorites who just want to tell their story of the early solar system.

Good luck finding pieces of this super special space rock ! Guess it didn't hit a roof or a person or we'd have found it already! I can imagine the excitement of finding it your own back yard though. Can't believe it was spotted before impact. What a beautiful fireball.

What amazing times we live in. We were wowed tonight at the opening of @fugro's #SpAARC complex in downtown Perth. Soon to be running space command and remote operations on the moon! Showcasing once again Australia's world leading space capability. tinyurl.com/2p8vxjby

@CurtinHIVE A piece of the Marble Bar Chert from the Pilbara (on the traditional land of the Nyamal people) was sent to Mars as part of Perseverance's SuperCam calibration targets. From a deep sea fan, and possibly similar to rocks on Mars, it's from a time that oxygen was rising on Earth.
