I learned about ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) and how devices on a LAN discover MAC addresses using IP addresses, I also learned how ARP works, from sending an ARP request to the host and receiving an ARP reply

When you get to PAT (Port Address Translation), that's where NAT gets interesting. Most home routers do PAT, not basic NAT - one public IP shared across every device on the LAN. Worth looking up when you're ready.
