Over time, I get more and more persuaded, and more and more comfortable being persuaded, that Erie Railroad Co. v. Tompkins was wrongly decided.

@JonahPerlin But we shouldn’t pretend 1L year is some kind of year of exploration. I don’t think that’s the experience of most when so much is on the line. It’s a year to get a job, and then you explore.

@JonahPerlin I’d much rather have spent one semester rather than two laser focused on OCI. I see the issues raised by this. It’s really not great for the firm. And it is bad for students that have a harder time adjusting to law school.

Really good to see. Free speech is not freedom to trespass and disrupt the learning environment of other students. UChicago made clear its principles early on and then enforced it.

@RandyEBarnett I wasn’t there, but disruption can occur even when there is silence. How can a student - particularly a Jewish student - be expected to learn amidst a targeted display of antisemitic hate? How can a professor teach? The context matters.

I’ve been contacted by faculty who were present at the event. Based on the facts related to me, the demonstration did not constitute a breach of @georgetown’s free speech policy. The protest was silent & the speech was not disrupted. I expect @GeorgetownLaw to issue a statement describing these facts

Many may not know that GULC has a healthy population of observant Jews. Georgetown, as a religious institution itself, respects religious observance. There is a kosher kitchen just a flight of stairs away from this. I am stunned that people would treat classmates this way.

As a recent grad who spent many, many hours in this classroom, the blatant antisemitic nature of this - from supposedly the best and brightest law students in the country - is horrifying.

The most hilarious part of this is that you must wear a suit, but you shouldn’t wear a nice pair of leather-soled Allen Edmonds dress shoes, as that would be rude. #barexam

Rode today, very nice. A big benefit is that hill east is now connected to navy yard with convenient bike lanes.

@BarExamTutor If you got into Columbia, you likely got into another t14 with significant scholarship money. You can choose the money and end up at the same law firm…

I like to check this occasionally. Seems that students now attending Columbia Law are paying $118,357. Per academic year. Many save on scholarships, and that is Columbia's calculation of all costs (not just tuition). But wow. The 3 years: $355,071. 😵 law.columbia.edu/about/departme…

@theHillisHome 1) This is a trademark dispute (distinct from copyright) 2) lots of trademarks include geographic areas. Ex Patagonia, Kentucky Fried Chicken. COACHELLA for music festival is prob ik because it has “acquired distinctiveness” - ppl associate the name w/ the festival

@postlocal @dwatchnews_nam And 2) it needs much greater density around the metro station. There is no excuse for not having beautiful new apartments with an easy commute downtown. (And with that, put in a nice parking garage).

@postlocal @dwatchnews_nam I lived in CP for years and recently moved across town. The nimbyism displayed by some this article - including businesses I’ve frequented- is disappointing. It’s what is destroying the strip. CP desperately needs 1) biking infrastructure’s given 🛴 & e-bikes 1/2
