@NeverTr74704466 @x_isjjer Lots of money is earned without creating wealth. And lots of people are 'given' money. Taking their money away doesn't destroy wealth. If the argument is about incentives, keeping people at a wealth level where more money can meaningfully improve their quality of life is good.

@SubtleBeats @x_isjjer That is completely wrong, since no one is 'given' money unless they get it from someone else without doing anything. If you make money by providing goods or services, you've created wealth. And if you take yourself off the market.... that's wealth destroyed.

@NeverTr74704466 @x_isjjer Money is a distributive tool, not the actual resources people want. In a society where 100 people have $10, giving one person $1000 makes everyone else 50% materially poorer.

@x_isjjer Yes, but once they sense there's a limit to how much they'll be allowed to make, they'll make that much and no more. Just tax for the revenue you need and don't worry about who is getting rich.

Afghanistan is just as mountainous and the Taliban were bombed until their C&C broke and then invaded successfully. The same could be done with Iran, and no, America wouldn’t be defeated in the mountain passes. It’s not Thermopylae. However you are correct that it would be an incredibly idiotic move to launch a ground invasion. Not because you’d lose, but because you’d win relatively quickly but then find yourself in a quagmire worse than Vietnam. That’s the real reason not to launch a ground invasion.

Why is it so hard for US politicians to "rule anything in or out" when it comes to US troops on the ground in the Iran War? It's not that hard, folks. The answer is 100% 'no.' Look at the topographical map below and note the virtually impregnable *series* of mountain ranges along the entire Western side of the country. Note, too, the green, level terrain of Iraq to the west, and realize that when I was part of the US invasion force into Iraq in 1991 (and the US coalition in 2003), we were able to drive into Iraq from friendly countries, over level terrain, where the defending force had nowhere to hide or defend from. Iran, in contrast, is built for defense. We simply do not have the number of troops in our entire ground forces that could be mustered to make such an attack, and even if we foolishly did order them in, they would be defeated in the many mountainous ridges and valleys that give decisive advantage to the defending force. In short, yes, reject any idea of a ground invasion of Iran. It would be suicidal, and on par with Hitler's fatal decision to invade the USSR in September 1941. It would result in the destruction of the American empire.

@vintage_ananda @AssajVentress0 British people are British, regardless of their ethnic origin. Also, you don't even seem to know the myths yourself - the 'grooming gang' panics are centred around cities in the midlands, not London.

@AssajVentress0 Invaders do not become locals by wearing local clothes or eating local food. By that logic the Pakistani grooming gangs of London would be called British but they are not, they are Pakistanis settled in Britain. The same logic applies to Mughals and other muslim invaders.

The Mughals came and settled in the subcontinent, married local women, and by Aurangzeb's time they were half-Rajput by blood. They invested everything they had in India, that's why you have buildings like the Taj Mahal and Red Fort etc. They wore Indian clothes, died in India, and are even buried there. Priyanka should stick to making flop movies. History and politics are not her forte.

Maybe Camilla Turner should declare that mummy and daddy are directors of UK Lawyers for Israel, a pro-Israel lobby group currently under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority? UKLFI’s track record includes demanding the removal of Gaza children’s artwork at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, trying to cancel the Falastin Film Festival, pressuring Barts Health NHS Trust to ban Palestine badges, lobbying the Open University to remove the phrase “ancient Palestine” from teaching materials, complaining to the British Museum about references to Palestine and “people of Palestinian descent”, threatening the government with legal action over the suspension of 30 arms export licences to Israel, and claiming that Israel’s blockade in Gaza could “reduce obesity” and potentially increase “average life expectancy.” Nothing but a privileged stenographer.

@biggle1908 @zarahsultana Jewish people should feel happy that someone is standing up against genocide, just like every person should. Also: a badge like... what, exactly? The flag of their nation isn't somehow offensive just because their homes were stolen and their children are being murdered.

@biggle1908 @zarahsultana Hospitals are where people work to heal people. It's no surprise that they'd stand against genocide. The West is largely responsible for the plight of the Palestinians; pushing back against murdering them and stealing their homes seems like the least we can do.

@TomHeath27 @LBC @TomSwarbrick1 It doesn't. Automatic braking doesn't always work in complex urban environments involving pedestrians/cyclists, and SUVs are big for the sake of being big, not for safety.

@LBC @TomSwarbrick1 Part of the reason cars have been getting bigger is because they’re getting safer for l occupant/s. This argument about SUVs being unsafe falls apart with automatic braking tech etc. An SUV with that tech is safer in this scenario than a hatchback without it being driven badly

It is hard to overstate how much our country’s security depends on the United States. Some people may not like it, but it’s a fact. We get much more from our security relationship from them than they do from us, including intelligence and capabilities we could never afford ourselves, and which are essential to keeping Britain safe. It is a major crisis that this is where we stand tonight.

Further evidence of the moral collapse in the west is that this will be the first and last time you hear about the daughter and grandson being murdered. The media and politicians won't care, they won't condemn it, they'll simply move on as if murdering women and children is nothing.

There are ENDLESS things to do with land. Nature is beautiful but nature also has a way of hiding even more beautiful things (via overgrowth). Once you own land, the work never stops. Here are the top 5 things I do: 1) Explore it - even small pieces (5-50 acres) can take months of walking it to find all the cool things it has to offer. 2) Maintain it - sure, you could pay someone to clear brush, grade a washed out dirt road, haul gravel (and I’ve surely done that some), but you won’t get a better sense of fulfillment than by doing a lot of the work yourself. There is something about a good day of hard manual labor that gives you a sense of accomplishment. It’s almost like you’re tapping into what your ancestors did in order to just survive. 3) Hike it - Especially true on hilly or mountainous land, I’ll get up each morning and walk DOWN the mountain and then back up. That gives the most hardcore gym in the world a run for its money. 4) Clean it - As I mentioned at the start, beautiful things that naturally occur can hide even more beautiful things via overgrowth. In the Smoky Mtns, large formations of grandiose slate rock get hidden by various trees/brush over the years. Cleaning all that 15-20 yr small overgrowth of pine or oak to reveal the really cool blueish slate rock formations that have been there for millions of years is extremely fulfilling. It’s like you discover a Van Gogh painting in an old attic. The dust, dirt that collected on it “naturally occurred” from it just sitting there, but wiping it off reveals something extremely majestic. 5) Meditate - when you explore your land, you’ll naturally just find your favorite spots to sit and pray/ponder/meditate. I’ve found a few spots on my acreage overlooking some insane views of the mountain range and I’ll just sit on a rock for hours watching red tail hawks screech as they fly by, watching eagles fly over my head and just think “Man, this is what life is all about, how could have have been so foolish chasing so many other unfulfilling things for so many decades”. (Video is from yesterday of my buddy Jimmy and me clearing out some small pines that were hiding some amazing rock formations)

People who bought this amount of land What do you actually do with it besides owning it? Like do you go for walks or drive around on a buggy and say "hahaha this is my land" Not hating but curious

@McFranchisee That's desirable. Ideally there would be software dynamically scaling the energy use throughout the day to match up generation peaks with usage peaks, and minimise wasted heat into the environment.

I found out that restaurant owners in Europe are only turning on the bare minimum of cooking equipment. Electricity is so expensive right now that they may only turn on one fryer vat or grill for breakfast and maybe two for lunch to reduce consumption. It’s about half what we operate in the US. We’ve all heard about absurd surges in electricity prices overseas but didn’t realize the heavy burden on businesses.

A Polish YouTuber just heated his house by burning 133 Lidl donuts in his stove. 14°C→22°C. Burned for 5+ hours. Donuts have almost the same energy value as wood pellets - but at €0.0024 per donut, they're insanely cheaper. Fat Thursday in Poland just solved energy crisis.🍩

@avaritia_trades @BowTiedBroke That's not really how it works. 'Brush' in particular is the foundation for growing new forest, and clearing it prevents regeneration. Depending on the ecosystem, small fires are natural and desirable, but they don't do the same thing as human clearance.

@SubtleBeats @BowTiedBroke Every forest has a lifespan. Towards the end, forests become tinderboxes. They creat conditions favorable to fire. Meadows get encroached. 10 unhealthy saplings fight for the resources one healthy tree should have. Sometimes its better to keep quiet and not advertise ignorance.
