I don’t often make “community” posts, but what a weekend I am starting to get caught up on. I use the term community as a non-organized group of individuals discussing shared interests and do not imply any formal or legal recognition of an organization, entity or group, nor should it be construed as a basis for any legally enforceable claims. — though you may laugh this off, I do wish everyone would get along. there is so much potential and talent within everyone that when focused on a common goal, would make any effort unstoppable. I have come to appreciate understanding people’s differences in opinion and respect them, I don’t think it is fair to spray vitriol towards anyone. you can have differing opinions and still maintain respect for one another, recognizing there are common goals that remain shared. there is a difference between disagreement and disrespect. let me pick two hot-topic names to make my point, @TeddyJamali and @pulte. let me be clear that I consider both of these individuals to be good friends of mine and I respect them. let’s admit that both have been a tremendous asset to the community for many reasons, such as they literally brought the community together, in physical space. Ramez has paid for people to come to these gatherings (myself being a beneficiary) and he continues philanthropic efforts within the community by offering to help people with groceries and giving away money. he also feeds and provides water for hundreds of children in his native country through food banks—I am all for people’s choice to disagree with someone, that doesn’t mean their entire identity is what you disagree with. Ramez has done all this and more, has he ever asked for anything in return? similarly with Pulte, who had the *idea* to bring people together into the same physical space and funded a lot of it himself; where was his “personal gain” then? there was a tremendous benefit for the community to make real-world relationships and have open discussion. it was a level-up when people substituted the internet town hall and were in the same physical space together, they discovered so much in common. further, he was bold enough to take the personal risk as a public figure and be a voice for retail-centric stock communities on national television and tradfi outlets like Fox and Hedgeye—made statements demanding accountability for public-company executives who enrich themselves unjustly. Pulte has done all this and more, has he ever asked for anything in return? — this is not a good look on anyone, nor is it an identifying representation of our community. I have had the great fortune of making a lot of valuable friendships that I care about, both in the online sphere and stemming from it, in the real-world. I don’t like seeing people I care about at odds with one another and I hope that everyone can return to common goals and seeing common ground, while maintaining their right to have difference of opinion. *everyone* deserves respect. let’s exemplify how we plan on changing the world through our treatment of one another. n.b. “bought and paid” comments—that’s some thick cope.
