I'm getting pretty tired of the ongoing attacks on atheism, where it's dismissed as a far-left ideology without any morals or rational basis. It's frustrating to see this narrative pushed so often, as if not believing in a god or gods automatically makes someone unethical or illogical. But really, atheism is straightforward: it just means lacking belief in deities. That's the core of it, without any extra implications about a person's character or values. Like many atheists, my morals are grounded in empathy, reason, and a commitment to doing right by others – no divine oversight required. I stand by principles such as being kind and respectful to people, accepting that there are only two genders based on biology, and viewing child pornography as utterly wrong, with those who engage in it needing to be shunned from society for everyone's safety. These are common-sense ethics that transcend belief systems. What irks me is the stereotype that atheists have somehow lost their moral compass just because we don't subscribe to supernatural ideas. In truth, plenty of us cherish family, contribute to our communities, and take personal responsibility seriously. We draw inspiration from science's revelations about the world, find fulfillment in relationships and personal goals, and push for fairness and compassion. The assumption that we'd spiral into amorality without faith overlooks the ethical lives many atheists lead daily. It'd be more constructive to assess people on their behavior and decisions, not on their stance toward the supernatural. Moving beyond these broad brushes could open up better discussions and highlight our shared human values.

It equates passively using existing government-built stuff like the internet with actively pursuing and profiting from direct tax-funded government contracts to manufacture weapons for the state's monopoly on violence. The original question was clear: can you help manufacture weapons of war and still hold yourself out to be a libertarian? My answer is no. Opposing taxation as theft means rejecting active participation in that coercion, not feeding the beast for profit. Plenty of defense contractor jobs don't involve building weapons at all, but the ones that do cross a bright line. Private manufacturers can make defensive tools for actual markets without state deals or lobbying for bigger budgets. We all deal with some statist reality, but that doesn't make voluntarily taking stolen tax dollars to arm the coercer consistent with libertarian principles. If there's a real defense of why that's compatible, I'm listening.

@TexasAnCap @RealAngelaMc If your logic were fine, you'd actually have a rebuttal. Not a minion gif or personal insult. Either a defense company taking tax dollars is an original sin or it isn't. If it is, then you shouldn't be using the internet. If reality is more complex than that, then keep using it.

@SarahCaito_ @RealAngelaMc Again, your views are inherently anti-libertarian. You can make whatever claim you want, but that doesn't change where you align. The original question was about libertarian politics, which you clearly should not be involved with.

@TexasAnCap @RealAngelaMc Original sin means action that damns completely. It has nothing to do if you're a christian or not. You could substitute in your own words for irredeemably evil because you made a gun and took a government order, as you're saying. Defend your ideas.

@TexasAnCap @RealAngelaMc You don't like having your logic tested against reality, I see. Maybe taking tax dollars isn't an original sin?

A big debate in libertarian circles is whether or not its acceptable to work for a defense contractor and be active in libertarian politics. Like, can you help manufacture weapons of war and still hold yourself out to be a libertarian?

@TexasAnCap @RealAngelaMc You should stop using the internet, since it was developed using some tax dollars, if you really think that way. I'll take the best tool for the job, and be glad to live where we have the best weapons, so I can defend my life and liberty to the best extent.

@SarahCaito_ @RealAngelaMc There are plenty of manufacturers that make weapons that are suitable for defense without needing tax dollars.

@TexasAnCap @RealAngelaMc Being pro liberty means being able to fight off those who are anti liberty. Abandoning weapons development for the sake of purity means you're just a victim for the first person/goverment who decides to use violence.
