Everyone sees the demo.
But are not really talking about what happens after, when that “working” system meets real users and messy data.
In testing, everything behaves. Clean inputs, expected outputs and no surprises. Then you plug into a real environment and things get weird fast.
Inputs you didn’t plan for, outputs you can’t fully explain. Well, that’s where the real work starts.
And it’s rarely the model. It’s all the unsexy stuff around it… handling bad inputs, retrying failed calls, logging enough to figure out what went wrong later.
None of that shows in a demo, but it’s what keeps things from breaking.
Also, “edge cases” stop being edge cases. At scale, they’re just… normal.
Then add client. Cause now it actually matters. You need fallbacks, clear errors, answers when something goes wrong.
And things will go wrong.
That’s the shift. It’s not about getting it to work once. It’s about keeping it working.
