Very exciting - Good Choice Joseph has qualified for the BAFTAs! We provided audio post-production for this short film by James Farrell and had a blast doing it.

@ground_ga Amazing! And if at all possible, it would be great if you could lock some important story content behind a mobile game that gets shut down after 3 months.

Rejoice, YELLOW PAINT lovers! We've decided to add some AAA features to our game! 🟡🖌️🪣 (We're too busy to make more April Fools' content, so we'll do what any JRPG does to extend the runtime: Backtracking! Maybe next year we'll repost it with a different color palette)

A while since I posted any progress. Mostly been working on behind the scene stuff. Save and load system is now working and a basic quest system has been added. Currently working on a city map with Roman inspired architecture. Still very much WIP. #gamedev #IndieDev #ゲーム制作

@pixelated_milk This looks absolutely fantastic, can't get enough of the 2.5D vibes and the combat looks like a lot of fun. Great work!

𝕿𝖔 𝖇𝖊 𝖆𝖓 𝖎𝖓𝖉𝖎𝖊 𝖌𝖆𝖒𝖊 𝖔𝖗 𝖓𝖔𝖙 𝖙𝖔 𝖇𝖊? 𝕿𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖎𝖘 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖖𝖚𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 ( ◡‌_◡‌)੭💀 With all the debate, we'll have to add another existential dilemma to our pile, right next to: What is a JRPG? (bc we are making an ✨indie JRPG✨, just so you know!)

Yes it seems bizarre to me that JRPGs should only be made in Japan, despite games like FF being primarily inspired by Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars etc. And even more strange that people only seem to apply this rule to a game genre, but not other things (Italian food is Italian food no matter where it's cooked, a Swedish massage doesn't have to be given by someone from Sweden, etc etc). I've always found the argument really silly. Games like E33, and TTIHL, clearly come from the same tradition as the JRPGs, they aren't really anything like a western style RPG. I think calling it anything other than JRPG would be confusing honestly and make marketing really difficult.

@JoshWiniberg Back in the days of the dinosaurs, we just called everything RPGs👴. JRPGs were born from a reinterpretation of western RPGs and evolved into its own (awesome) thing. We are kind of doing the same. Despite Japanese games shaping a lot of genres, only RPGs adopted the "J"!

@ground_ga Yes, it highlights the primacy of the dodge mechanic by waiting to introduce attack so I like your approach. Just thinking that to ward off concern about it being dodge only, simply showing the attack option in the menu could work, even if the player can't select it yet.

@JoshWiniberg Thanks for the suggestion😊! Dodging is the key to the combat system, we wanted to teach that as soon as possible. Attacking is a risky but powerful tool, so we thought it was best to delay its entry a bit, but your solution could work!

Some say our battle system is boring because you can’t attack. But you can! We use the first fights to teach the basics (dodging, parrying, arena interactions…) before introducing the first offensive skill. Or should we unlock it from the start? 🧐

@bromanguy0 I'm sure there's an audience for it, but it's pretty niche for sure 😂
