Another murderer is found not guilty by reason of insanity. Cordell Goosby perpetrated the high-profile, random June 13, 2023 shooting in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood that killed a pregnant business owner, Eina Kwon, and her unborn daughter. Goosby was recently found not guilty by reason of insanity and is committed to a state psychiatric facility. On June 13, 2023, Eina Kwon (34) and her husband, Sung Kwon, were stopped at a red light at Fourth Avenue and Lenora Street. They were commuting to their downtown restaurant. Without provocation, Goosby approached their Tesla and emptied a stolen 9mm handgun into the vehicle. Eina Kwon, who was 8 months pregnant, was shot four times and passed away. Doctors performed an emergency delivery, but her unborn daughter, Evelyn, also died. Sung Kwon survived with bullet wounds to his arm. Defense lawyers pursued an insanity defense. Independent mental health experts hired by both the defense and state prosecutors fully agreed that Goosby was legally insane during the shooting. By raising an insanity defense, Goosby legally acknowledged committing the acts but asserted he suffered from severe mental disease. He was acquitted of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges. Instead, he was committed to Western State Hospital. Public controversy arose because Goosby could not be charged with homicide for the unborn infant's death. Under Washington state's "born alive" legal standard, homicide charges only apply to individuals born alive.

Let me explain why I think Freddy resonates. Lots of Europeans visit the USA as tourists. They visit New York City, or Washington DC, or Hollywood, or Las Vegas, and if they visit natural beauty too, they go to really crowded places like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. So while they see our cultural and natural icons, they are mostly in blue cities and they therefore also see the decline, the homeless, the drugs, the dirt and the rude, rude Americans. But Freddy is not doing that. Freddy is driving, and he’s doing it through the heartland, where people are kind and polite, the skies are wide open, and the bounty of Buc-ees and Bass Pro Shops are overwhelming. Freddy is not seeing fentanyl and decline. He is seeing the real, hopeful, patriotic, kind America that European tourists rarely traverse. And he loves it. That’s why Freddy is a phenomenon.

HORRIFIC!! Ezekiel Lamar Jackson committed a brutal, premeditated 5 hour attack on a female residential cleaner inside his Canton, Georgia apartment. According to prosecutors from the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office, the crime unfolded through the following events: Jackson posted an ad on the Nextdoor app seeking apartment cleaning services. Investigation of his phone showed he explicitly chose to reply only to a lone female respondent while ignoring male or business applicants. When the victim arrived at his apartment on April 6, 2026, Jackson blindsided her in the bathroom. He stabbed her in the face, neck, and eye with a screwdriver. He also choked her until she nearly lost consciousness. Jackson held the victim captive for nearly five hours. He repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her while threatening to kill her if she tried to escape. The victim managed to survive by convincing Jackson to take her to Northside Cherokee Hospital. She promised to tell medical staff that her injuries were from an accidental fall. Once at the hospital, the victim immediately disclosed the truth to medical staff. Canton Police Department officers arrested Jackson as he sat waiting in the lobby. Medical evaluations revealed the victim suffered an orbital fracture, facial trauma, and multiple active brain bleeds. Jackson pleaded guilty to all 10 criminal counts. These included two counts of rape, three counts of aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery, and terroristic threats. A judge sentenced Jackson to life in prison with the possibility of parole, followed by 40 years of strict probation. He must also permanently register as a sex offender and pay restitution to the victim.
