@e_fosa08 well basically because it's not part of the plan, the plan was to take down the air fleet before they fly, but they're too late and the air fleet is already flew away by then so they have to change the plan, but even when the plan changed, toph still considered to be so useful

Toph was far more valuable against the Fire Nation airship fleet because the entire invasion force was basically made of metal. She is the world’s greatest metalbender, so sending her with Sokka to sabotage the ships gave the team their best chance at stopping the Fire Nation from burning down the Earth Kingdom.Even Sokka said he was happy Toph tagged along 🌚.
Katara, meanwhile, was much better suited for the Agni Kai. Fighting in the sky on metal airships would’ve been rough for her since there was barely any water around to work with. She would’ve been heavily limited up there.
On the other hand, the fight against Azula took place in the capital where Katara had access to water sources and enough space to fight effectively. Plus, Zuko trusted Katara and it wasn’t wise to face Azula alone .

Disregarding the outcome: Why did Zuko take Katara to fight Azula instead of Toph? Toph against Azula sounds WAY more helpful than sending the blind girl to help out against a fleet of Airships.

@emmywayne64 because they supposed to stop the air fleet on ground, sokka' late and the air fleet is already flew away, that's why he needed toph, but since the circumstances has changed, they stoped the air fleet on air

The strength of the Avatar has always come from the wisdom of the past lives, so treating the destruction of the Avatar cycle like it’s no big deal never made sense to me to be honest. I wonder how Pavi will survive with a nitwit wisdom

@ClutchGenes_A1 probably not Szeto lol he only focus on fire nation, making fire nation superior and ending conflict with diplomacy making the world seems at peace but only making it worse, he's the reason there's a 100 year war, making Yangchen focus on human world, neglecting spiritual world

@OmoAlade007 maybe this would spark a reason why the connection should be reset because probably it's outdated, Korra have all the knowledge that's needed to gave the next Avatar, energy bending, chi restoration, metal bending, how to defeat a blood bending etc

I don't understand.. how is losing thousands of years of wisdom, experience, and guidance the “best thing” for the Avatar cycle?
The past Avatars are literally what helped each new Avatar grow stronger and avoid repeating mistakes.
And the funniest part is that if not for the previous Avatars, Korra would’ve permanently lost her bending during the Amon saga.

@DanHarmone but humans couldn't even coexist with each other, Republic City is a step but it still too far from reaching the ideal world where all bender would coexist, and now they have to coexist with a spirit? I know Korra's have a good reason but I think it would be hard to achieve it

I will just say it. If you understand the Avatar themes you will never say opening the portals was a bad thing by Korra. Wanting the portals shut forever is basically arguing humanity should avoid growth because adaptation is uncomfortable.
Wan separated the worlds because humanity at the time was too fragile and violent to coexist safely with spirits, but by Korra’s era that separation itself had become part of the imbalance. Humans industrialized while becoming spiritually disconnected, treating spirits as myths, tools, or enemies instead of part of the natural world.
The fandom insisting the portals should just be closed again is such a shallow solution. It completely ignores the central theme of the franchise balance is not achieved by permanently isolating what is different or difficult, but by learning how to coexist with it despite the risks.
