Lmao u acting like losing past lives erases what the Avatar is, which isn’t true. Reincarnation still continues, the Avatar still exists, and their authority was never just about consulting previous lives. Their role is to maintain balance in the present, not just rely on the past. Aang had access to past Avatars and still rejected their advice when it didn’t align with his values. That alone shows their authority isn’t dependent on inherited wisdom, it comes from their own decisions. Korra losing that connection removes guidance, not identity. It forces her to act without a safety net, which is a narrative shift, not a failure.

What a nothingburger post. No1 "missed" the narrative intent, we just don't like it and think it's dumb. Why would an avatar without the past lives be better narratively? Reincarnation is the whole point of the avatar, what authority do they have without the wisdom of past lives?

@DanHarmone @teapeachrose After they captured the Red Lotus, they should have let her out into the world. Let her explore it with adult supervision ofc, like have her mother or father follow her around or let her grow up with Tenzin for a few years, then have her move to Zaofu for a few others etc.

This argument only works if you ignore what Korra actually went through. Saying she had peace, mentors, and resources is technically true but completely misleading. Korra was raised in isolation, overprotected, and trained in a controlled environment that actively stunted her growth as an Avatar. She had bending teachers, not real-world experience, which is why she struggles when she finally faces actual political, spiritual, and ideological conflicts. And ‘peace’ doesn’t mean ‘easy.’ Korra didn’t inherit a war, she inherited a world full of systemic problems: inequality (Amon), spiritual imbalance (Unalaq), anarchism (Zaheer), and authoritarian expansion (Kuvira). These are far more complex than a single enemy nation, they’re ideological conflicts with no simple solution. Also, she didn’t ‘make things harder,’ she made decisions under uncertainty without the safety net of past Avatars after Harmonic Convergence. Unlike Aang, she couldn’t rely on accumulated wisdom. Every mistake she makes is part of her learning curve in a world that doesn’t have clear answers. Reducing all of that to ‘she had it easy and messed up anyway’ ignores her trauma, her growth, and the complexity of the problems she faced. It’s not analysis, it’s just flattening the character.

Korra had mentors, resources, and peace… and still made things harder than they needed to be 🙂‍↔️

@DanHarmone @Ightningmcqueen Themes don't equal good writing, it's ONE element of it and in itself has no value. Why not just release inspiring instagram quotes and call it a day atp

Saying ‘95% of the hate would disappear’ if the events of Harmonic Convergence never happened is just an oversimplification that ignores both the narrative intent and the broader reception of The Legend of Korra. That moment wasn’t some random destruction of lore, it was a deliberate thematic reset of the Avatar cycle back to a state closer to Wan, where the Avatar must operate without relying on accumulated past wisdom. The point is to force Korra into a position where she cannot lean on previous lives like Aang did, and instead has to navigate a far more modern, politically complex, and spiritually unstable world on her own terms. It shifts the Avatar from being a vessel of inherited answers to someone who must actively create new ones, which fits the show’s larger themes of change, uncertainty, and evolving balance. More importantly, the idea that removing this event would erase most of the hate ignores the fact that criticism of Korra existed long before it, people already took issue with her personality, the tonal shift from the original series, the industrial setting, and the different narrative structure. Harmonic Convergence simply became a focal point for frustrations that were already there, not the root cause of them. Even without it, those same criticisms would persist because they stem from fundamental differences between the two shows, not a single plot decision. Reducing all of that to one moment is less analysis and more scapegoating imo.

Agree or Disagree: 95% of the hatred Korra gets would disappear if this never happened

@teapeachrose She was an illiterate when she came to the city. She had to run away because they wont take her there. Someone should have guided her to explore the city. This proves my point even more.

@DanHarmone Mind you, say Korra was perfect and always won her fights, the criticism would be that she’s a Mary Sue and lacks any originality or complexity as a character. They give her that and they’re complaining that she’s not a Mary Sue? They were gonna complain regardless. Misogyny.
