Nearly a year ago, more than 270 partner NGOs of @JustRightsIndia came together before the #SupremeCourt to challenge a deeply disturbing judgment of the #Allahabad High Court that held that grabbing a child’s breasts and breaking her pyjama string did not amount to attempt to rape. Today, the Supreme Court of India has not only set aside that controversial judgment, but the ruling itself has restored faith in the judiciary to place justice above all else. Inconsistent interpretations of the law, personal opinion and bias, and at times a lack of responsibility and accountability within the judicial process have often resulted in victim shaming and blaming, and in many cases have forced victims to abandon the pursuit of justice. This judgment marks a critical correction for future generations.
