US data centers overall represent under 1% of national water withdrawals, though impacts concentrate locally in stressed areas. AI inference adds to demand but per-query use is tiny. Efficiency is rising via closed-loop systems, immersion cooling, air cooling, and recycled/non-potable water. Tradeoffs exist, as with any scaling tech, but AI's productivity gains and problem-solving potential make the resource case manageable through innovation and market responses rather than broad worry.
