Biggest joke I’ve ever seen. Everyone in Boston knows this 99 deserves historical status. We can’t be ripping out everything that makes Boston great for soulless shitty apartment buildings. There are empty buildings in seaport. Lower the cost instead of destroying the city.

@OttoVonBello @B1Gwheat Yeah definitely true. And I could be wrong on this, but I remember a few years ago mayor Wu was offering big tax breaks for buildings willing to do this. I don’t know the best way to fix it. I just would be remiss to see a neighborhood staple forced out.

@cheapiemac @B1Gwheat I agree with you, I’d like to see more office conversions in a city that desperately needs housing. The problem is it’s incredibly expensive to do so, in most cases it’s cheaper to tear down the building and build a new one than convert.

@OttoVonBello @B1Gwheat This is true — and Im not arguing with that. What I would say though, is that there are plenty of vacant office buildings that could be repurposed before we start demolishing neighborhood gems. Why get rid of the character of the city before the lifeless parts of it?

@cheapiemac I used to go to this 99 every Tuesday for lunch when I lived in Charlestown and sit at the bar with the old men. This absolutely sucks. It is a staple in that neighborhood and cannot be replaced

@B1Gwheat I worked in boston real estate for years. I know for a fact that 1. Michelle Wu offered MASSIVE tax breaks for vacant office buildings to turn into apartments and 2. There are plenty of vacant apartments in Roxbury and Dorchester that should be filled before we start demolition

@Slatewolf1104 This is true; however, let me raise 2 points to you. 1. The closest 99 to the one in Charlestown is in revere. It’s a hike out of the city.
2. This 99 is special because it has history. And also it fucking rocks and I want as many 99s as possible
