@pitdesi @sferik You should almost always lease. 1) You only pay sales tax on depreciation vs entire purchase price, 2) Black Scholes teaches us there is always value to an option (especially with Teslas), 3) lease interest rates are often subsidized so lower than your opportunity cost of capital

@patio11 Can you explain why AMEX doesn’t use 2.5 of the last digits of a card number, therefore making last 4 maddeningly similar or even duplicate if you hold lots of AMEX cards?

(I generally try to avoid news cycles but even after ill-considered policy proposals pass from it I feel there will still be some value in explaining how one maths one's way to 20%. Some parts are not intuitive.)

Writing a BAM issue about why credit cards don't generally charge 10% interest (*sigh* had to comment on it given the beat, right), and depending on how the restructuring goes, might write a separate Seeing Like A Card Program Manager. Anything else you're curious about?

@RobMahoney @SheaSerrano I can confirm that Rob is a very good mid range shooter beyond his excellent interior game. Shea would have no chance.

Hey X-- my marketing team is calling BS on my iPhone videos. Quality sucks and makes me look ugly, and as you know I'm handsome. Can't have that. What's a decent midrange setup for a home recording studio? I google it and land on these full-on pro podcast setups. I think I need a decent DSLR (Sony? Canon?) + mic + lights, no? Any picks or resources? I'd also pay a dude to Zoom me and help me set it up.

@mmullany I think we can all agree that the SPAC phase was roundly ill advised but no one forced companies to use that vehicle. They willingly chose to cash out.

@garyleff It’s also not an issue for crypto. The DAF sells the crypto upon receipt and credits the market price. Exactly the same as donation stock.

This is inaccurate. In order to claim a charitable donation for a gift of art, the charity must use the art in a manner related to its exempt purpose. Merely holding the art limits deductibility to the donor's cost basis. Selling the art within two years limits it to sales price.
Judd Legum@JuddLegum

@IPS_DC 4. Donor-advised funds are also a popular way for wealthy individuals to donate non-cash assets like art & crypto. Since these assets are difficult to appraise accurately, they can be gifted to donor-advised funds at significantly inflated values, yielding large tax benefits.

I'm in a business school beef. So I wrote this edition of Crypto Curious on all the ways in which crypto is productive, transparent and has some real businesses with real cash flows. nexted.ge/posts/crypto-c…

In this week's issue. The Good: Coinbase fights back against the SEC. The Bad: Tron and Binance definitely aren’t helping. The Ugly: Crypto is veering partisan, just like everything else. nexted.ge/posts/crypto-c…
