I also believed this in my 20s (2000s), the big corporate boogeymen were oil interests and military contractors. More recently it was tech “oligarchs.” But does anyone really think those interests have juice with MAGA now? Oh, we’d be so lucky to have the MIC running foreign policy right now.

Yeah mostly observing how economies of scale distort the solution space. In the near future, I can have a whole AI read gauges for me without too much software hassle, and it will be only mildly more energy intensive and somewhat lower cost relative to the 100,000,000 simpler device.

If you want to make, like, 4 pressure measurements, it is waaaaay cheaper to get analog gauges, a raspberry pi, and a camera, and then use software to “read” them, than it is to use actual electronic gauges.

@loganb (not to mention getting the homebrew solution past inspection vs the rated one if it is a safety-critical application. ask me how i know)

@loganb the cost of crafting a weatherproof box to secure the analog gauges and uniformly light them up seems ... potentially conflicting
