I want a brighter and more abundant future (than I had) for my son and others of his generation. That means building a lot more stuff in the highest opportunity places in the country.

bob's burgers urbanist 🐿️@yhdistyminen

This thread is such a perfect encapsulation of the "lead paint caucus" mindset: "When I was young, I had to choose between living in a lead paint filled shithole, moving to a sprawlburg, or uprooting my life and relocating to another city. And so should you!"

Warren's war on crypto was a pure own-goal by the Democrats. It achieved nothing, and it cost them enormously by alienating a large fraction of a powerful group who'd previously supported them. Look at the change from 2020 to 2024.

To be honest technically Windows 95 was better than Windows 3.1 as it made the PC platform move from the 70s to the 80s, making the PC be only one decade behind others. But as the aim was to replace DOS fuck it. It also screwed the PC-98 platform in Japan so double-fuck it.

@MattZeitlin I dunno, I think we just need an abundance agenda for experiences. These things can scale — look how many concert residency seats Las Vegas has added in the last 20 years. With different policy, Colorado could have way more skiable acres and hotel rooms. Etc etc

I know I am an outlier in exactly this way, but the semiotic dynamics driving these impressions feels very straightforward to me… and so the sincerity of those claiming otherwise remains ambiguous to me nonetheless

I love how economists have an unofficial “ways to destroy a city” ranking that approximately goes: 1) zoning, 2) bombing, 3) rent control.

@tracewoodgrains Makes an arms race to be the first aggregator to post any given video. Consequently makes any creator have an incentive to show up. Then they can’t be scooped. Diabolical.

oh, Viral Rush was one of the dancers? filmed the video? uploaded it to the internet? or just slapped a watermark on someone else's video? going to war against slop aggregators makes sense but "you stole from another slop aggregator" ... doesn't, really
Nikita Bier@nikitabier

@Rainmaker1973 After sourcing 2759 videos from @ViralRushX over the last 6 months, you're now circumventing attribution by simply cropping out his watermark? You cannot get more shameless than this. This is your last day in the creator program.

The price signal in housing has been flashing red for years. It’s been telling us exactly what people want out of a neighborhood: walkable, local businesses, good transit, tree-lined streets. And city governments across the country have been fighting it tooth and nail.
george@idobadtakes

It's all housing. I make 98th percentile income and buying a nice home in a nice neighborhood was financially stressful even for me. It shouldn't cost a million dollars to buy a house in the fourth best neighborhood in a second-tier city

Fukuyama: The optics showed how far Trump had fallen in Chinese eyes. Xi did not meet him at the airport, Trump was seated to look smaller, and the worst part was Trump’s constant flattery — calling Xi a great leader, a friend, someone from central casting. 2/

An interesting counterpoint to the idea that Gen Z is uniquely doom-pilled. I think we might be underrating the idea that it's actually older generations - who are not digital natives - who are the most fully brain rotted by social media doom narratives.
Hunter📈🌈📊@StatisticUrban

Narrative violation: Gen Z has the highest consumer confidence. Gen X and Boomers are the pessimists. I do feel that undercuts many of the material explanations for the vibecession, insofar as uniquely awful economic conditions for young people are a main driving force.

A friend raised a very good question: Should we be more concerned that Donald Trump's doctors keep seeing a need to test him for dementia, or that Donald Trump keeps boasting about it?

Right. This is just one of *many* such issues. You're required to go at a speed so fast that a tiny dust particle colliding with your ship is equivalent to several nuclear bombs going off, and there is no real way to do maintenance in interstellar space.
Rishi 🌐🗽🥥🔰🏙@RishiJoeSanu

@DerekPederson3 And not even the distant stars. The probability of space dust wrecking the spaceship is high enough even if Alpha Centauri is the destination.

Reading the new AI encyclical, I’m struck by how the Pope describes how we should achieve a common good for society. It’s basically the most neoliberal vision of a common good conceivably possible: a culture of shared responsibility and aligned civil society.
