10 minutes in hot water more than DOUBLED the rate at which water escaped through the skin. Not 10 years of sun. TEN minutes. And that water was 41 degrees. Warm. Not scalding. At a hospital in Granada, 50 healthy adults put their right hand in hot water and their left hand in cold water. 10 minutes each. Then the researchers measured both palms. The hot hand lost water through the skin at more than twice its previous rate. It got redder. Its surface chemistry shifted. The cold hand changed too, but far less. They ran it a second way, touching a warm plate instead of water. Same direction. Contact with a hot surface increased water loss and redness. Contact with a cold one did nothing measurable. The researchers' own advice was to wash in cool or lukewarm water and avoid hot. 3 things this is not. It was hands, not faces. It was a bowl, not a shower. And it measured the skin's barrier that afternoon, not what your face looks like in ten years. So I am not going to tell you your shower is aging you. Nobody measured that. What I will tell you is that 41 degrees is not a punishing temperature, and it was enough to double the loss in ten minutes. Go and find out what yours runs at. Then decide what it is buying you.

Our party really bothers me sometimes. Why is the Republican Party pushing this old white guy for Mayor of Chicago when we have Danielle Carter-Walters — a total powerhouse, African American, who can actually connect with deep-blue Chicago? Another ambitious Republican who simply won’t win the city. I support Flip Chicago. Our party will never learn. When there are strong Black candidates in these areas, we should get fully behind them. I am an old white woman and I have an issue. I see the Republican party across the country backing black candidates but not here in Illinois. From my research this man is a democrat and always has been, his wife is still a democrat. I do not care what someone's skin color is but I have watched Danielle, the black woman running, fighting the Chicago politicians with her group since they began. She has been physically assaulted by another politician at city hall I believe it was. I have watched them fighting to stop crime and help their community. They have helped to bring the violence that the mayor and governor keep denying. She has testified in Washington DC about the corruption and violence in Chicago. When the list was put out with the candidates for mayor, her name was left off. You cannot in all honesty say that this is acceptable. She has my respect for everything she has done for her community
