The same day the Chair of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA), Chicago Police District Council member Ephraim Lee, attacked Chicago Flips Red, a federal judge confirmed Cook County’s property tax system was unconstitutional. Interesting timing. On Monday, May 11, 2026, the same day the Chicago Tribune published an opinion piece from Ephraim Lee taking a jab at Chicago Flips Red, a federal judge ruled that Cook County could be liable for paying back potentially millions to people who lost their homes through the county’s unconstitutional property tax sale system. Ephraim Lee is not just a random commentator. He serves as Chair of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA), is a Chicago Police District Council member representing District 2, and is also employed by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District — the same government body where Chicago Flips Red spoke out in support of families fighting land and property issues. When Chicago Flips Red attended that MWRD board meeting, it was not for “attention” or “chaos.” We were there supporting the Poole family, who were dealing with issues similar to what happened to my own family — the manipulation of eminent domain and government power to acquire land from Black families under the guise of public use. In this situation, it involved a proposed retention pond project while redevelopment discussions were happening around Myrtle involving Mayor Christopher Clark and MWRD President Commissioner Kari K. Steele who is also a realtor, raising legitimate questions about conflicts of interest. So when Ephraim Lee complains about people being “gruff” or “obnoxious,” what he’s really criticizing is residents who refuse to stay quiet while families lose homes, land, and generational wealth. Many of the same “respectable” people rolling their eyes at activists said little while unconstitutional tax sales, political favoritism, and property seizures devastated communities across Chicago and Cook County. Now federal courts are confirming what residents have been saying for years. Accountability is not “noise.” Questioning government actions is not “hyperbole.” And citizens demanding answers from public officials is not “dysfunction.” If Ephraim Lee believes dismissing concerned residents in the Chicago Tribune is leadership, voters in District 2 can decide for themselves in the next election whether that’s the kind of representation they want moving forward. My husband has just got back from London. He said “it wasn’t just unite the kingdom, it was unite the world” He said it was a great day all round and great fun.
