I mostly agree with this thread. But I think we're starting to see tension arise from competing ETH narratives and visions
Is the goal of burning ETH to make ETH holders rich or to make the system as secure as possible?
Are we building ultrasound money or a permissionless app platform? How do we decide on roadmaps that favor one over the other
Should MEV be captured by L1s, L2s or dapps?
Why does data sharding get to benefit from Ethereum hardforking security and not execution sharding? Is Ethereum just waiting for L2s to fund and do all the dev work of scaling, only to ultimately enshrine execution scaling down the line?
My comment might seem all over the place, some points I'm trying to make:
- there is an insane amount of work left to do to scale Ethereum, this combined effort will be massive and costs 10s of billions
- its important not too underestimate the scale of this cost / effort
- the more Ethereum narrative/mission is about ETH value (which is how maximize the burn comes across), the less aligned outsourcing the funding and development is
- It can be demoralizing for people that don't care about profits to ETH holders and are in it to build useful things that improve peoples lives
-complexity to the edges is nice in theory, but also is a handwave that pushes the problem elsewhere
- there is a ton of uncertainty where value will accrue across L1s, L2s, dapps, UIs which can make it stressful/risky to build any of them
And crypto twitter is wayyy too toxic of a venue for discussing these topics at this point.
Still love Ethereum and no plans to stop obsessively building on it 6 years and 25% of blockspace in.
