If Hal Finney were reanimated and someone told him how stablecoins worked, I don't think his reaction would be: "wait, you're telling me this non-KYC, instantly transferable, cryptographically custodied, P2P-accessible US dollar has... a freeze function? Oh. So we failed."

Stablecoins are actually super cypherpunk. CT has broken your brain on this. The idea that anyone at any time, with just a mobile phone, can hold and send dollars instaneously to anyone in the world, no KYC, no nothing--that was literally the cypherpunk dream.

A lot of what is currently understood as “tech optimism” is actually radically pro-market ideology that valorizes tech because it facilitates the creation of a slew of financial instruments. Real, true tech optimists are SO optimistic about it that they don’t necessarily subjugate technology to finance and markets. We don’t believe technology is something to fit within the existing economy. We believe in its potential to create a fundamentally new economy that changes the way we relate to each other forever. We believe it’s so powerful and good that it can and should transcend popular market logic and be made available to everyone.

Stables are a complete centralized stop-gap until people grasp and gain comfort in CROPS assets like BTC, ETH, and XMR. They are backed by loans to a government in a currency they can inflate to infinity. Worthless in the long run and the only moderately interesting version is a censorship resistant algorithmic one which has proven infeasible thus far (and also banned under GENIUS now?)

this (enabling privacy w/o relayers) is likely critical for avoiding money services business status (imo) I always felt if TornadoCash hadn't had relayers (or relayers hadn't used TORN as a common incentive mech), there'd really be no case

Ethereum is turning privacy into a first-class primitive. Frame transactions (EIP-8141) + 2D nonces remove the need for intermediaries: fees can be paid from the withdrawal itself, no third party relayer or doxxed account needed anymore.
