“‘And it’s sad because it puts us at a disadvantage, not only in addressing this crisis head on, but of course in setting up our students for failure when trying to compete at a global scale of the next generation of jobs,’ said Eskamani.” wokv.com/news/local/flo…

“Textbook authors were told last month that some references to “climate change” must be removed from science books before they could be accepted for use in Florida’s public schools, according to two of those authors.” LINK: orlandosentinel.com/2024/07/05/tex…

First they set benchmark standards teaching kids the so-called “personal benefits” of slavery….now this. This isn’t just a culture war— Ron DeSantis’ extreme agenda of censorship and control is actively indoctrinating Florida students into ignorance. We can stop it. 🗳️

"#Florida had already earned a D — and was among the five lowest-ranked states in the country — in a 2020 study that graded the states on how their public school science standards addressed climate change."
Craig Pittman@craigtimes

Just when you think @GovRonDeSantis can't get any more idiotic: Textbook authors told "climate change" references must be cut to get Florida’s OK, even though that is ANTI-SCIENCE. orlandosentinel.com/2024/07/05/tex… via @lesliepostal

“"These ill-considered actions are going to cheat #Florida students.” Branch said it was especially troubling the decision seemed based on “ideological grounds” and ignored the “rock solid” science that has documented climate change and its impacts." orlandosentinel.com/2024/07/05/tex…

Florida students need more information on the subject not less, [Haught] added. “Florida is one of the most impacted by the impacts of climate change, and oh my goodness Gov DeSantis, why?” orlandosentinel.com/2024/07/05/tex…

Florida hoped to fill this state’s massive teacher shortage by offering veterans a fast-track to teaching degrees. In Orange County, only 3 people enrolled. Veterans don’t want to be treated like dirt either. It’s not complicated. orlandosentinel.com/2024/05/02/tea…

Despite all the years of us working together, I think this is the only pic of me and @clairemetzwesh. Happy retirement! I absolutely loved working with you!

@DrKerryane @MollySelba I’m genuinely nervous. Science textbooks are up for review next year, I think. After seeing what math books went through and what social studies are going through, science will be a mess for sure.

“the number of large Florida public high schools not teaching physics has grown to 68 this school year – more than doubling since the 2017-18 school year. Now, almost one in every five large public Florida high schools is not teaching physics” bridgetotomorrow.wordpress.com/2023/03/15/the…

A Texas lawmaker just filed a bill that would allow "prayer and Bible reading on each school day." Need more proof this is about Christian Nationalism? He also wants to let teachers "encourage" students to pray. It's all blatantly unconstitutional. friendlyatheist.substack.com/p/texas-bill-w…

Since 2017, we’ve written extensively about this popular program that sends >252K students to a lightly regulated network of schools. Students don’t have to take state tests. Schools don’t have to publicly report scores from other standardized tests. Teachers don’t need degrees.
