Today, I signed legislation to preserve the Terra Ceia Bay and to build on our work to promote coastal resiliency and water quality statewide. Great to be in Bradenton this morning to sign legislation that will preserve Florida’s coastlines and support coastal resiliency. ✔️ SB 302 protects Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve from being developed into a cruise ship terminal along the Sunshine Skyway in Manatee County. ✔️ SB 302 will build on the results we’ve already seen from our investments in coastal resiliency and help restore wetlands, oyster reefs, and mangroves. ✔️ HB 1417 streamlines environmental rulemaking to protect our natural resources and keep our economy thriving. Florida is blessed with a beautiful coastline and natural environment, and my administration is committed to protecting the God-given treasures of our state.

Public order, safety, and the rule of law are fundamental to Florida’s success story. We couldn’t have done it without the men and women of law enforcement, who put their lives on the line to serve our communities every day. My administration has made historic investments to attract and retain great law enforcement personnel, including $5,000 bonuses for new hires at agencies across the state. As of today, more than 10,000 bonuses have been paid out to recruits from all over the country. We are grateful for their hard work and courageous service to the people of Florida.

Today in Naples, I was proud to announce a milestone for Florida’s Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program: More than 10,000 bonus payments of $5,000 after-tax have now been distributed to law enforcement personnel across our state. Since I signed landmark legislation to promote law enforcement recruitment and retention in 2022, Florida has made significant investments to help agencies recruit qualified personnel to keep our communities safe. Many of these new recruits have relocated to Florida from states where law enforcement has been defunded or demoralized by radical political agendas. We’re fortunate to have them here, and Floridians are grateful for their service every day.

Today, we unveiled another statue in a series that honors great Americans of history—part of Florida’s celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary. You can visit the new statue of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton in White Springs, located in the Florida county that bears his name.

As part of Florida’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, we have commissioned statues of the great Americans who shaped our state and our nation. Today in Hamilton County, I was proud to unveil a new statue of the county’s namesake: Alexander Hamilton. His participation in the fight for independence, his contributions to writing the Federalist Papers, his public service as a diplomat and “Father of the Treasury,” and his role as a confidante to George Washington made Hamilton an indispensable figure in our nation’s history. Hamilton had the strategic vision to see Florida’s significance long before Florida entered the Union, and though he did not live to see Florida become a state, his work helped shape our American story.

Technology ought to enhance our lives—not control our lives, nor supplant the human experience. The AI Bill of Rights defends consumers, medical patients, and families in Florida from the potential harms of artificial intelligence applications. It is especially important that we protect the most vulnerable among us: our children. Today, I announced that I am directing our state agencies to work with the Future of Life Institute and experts who study AI-human interactions to improve our understanding of AI harm to children. Through this collaboration, the state will develop a crisis counselor training curriculum to navigate AI-related mental health, as well as an AI Harms Reporting Form. The Florida Senate passed the AI Bill of Rights, but Florida House leadership is blocking it. It is incumbent on the Legislature to act in the best interests of the people who elected them and defend the rights of all Floridians, especially children.

Today in Yulee, I announced over $9 million in new investments from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to support workforce education and transportation infrastructure. With these awards: ✔️ Nassau County will construct a roadway network to establish a new industrial and commercial site that will create 1,250 new jobs. ✔️ The Bradford County School District will develop a new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training facility in partnership with North Florida Technical College, which will allow the existing CDL program to double student enrollment. We are also amending the North Florida Rural Area of Opportunity to include Nassau County, bringing the total to 15 counties. This designation helps rural communities diversify their economies and accelerate job growth in manufacturing, transportation, and logistics. Our investments in workforce development and critical infrastructure today will help Florida remain an economic powerhouse in the long run—and our rural counties will always be an indispensable part of our state’s success.

I commend @GovRonDeSantis and the Florida leaders working to ensure unions truly have the support of the educators they represent. This commonsense reform, SB 1296, reins in fringe political activism from teacher unions and refocuses them on accountability to teachers.
