I wouldn’t be mad at Wemby for taking the biggest deal ever but it’s obviously easier to pick up another A1 player in a trade if Wemby takes a smaller deal. A short contract on a top 10 SF/PF puts us there.

Spurs are said to be closing in on a 5-year $251M+ rookie max extension for Wembanyama (up to $300+ million with incentives). It’ll be fascinating to see if Wemby takes a page from Jalen Brunson. In 2024, Brunson left about $113M on the table when he signed his 4-year $156.5M extension. That cap flexibility helped the Knicks keep their core intact and win the 2026 title.
