Here is the moment UConn’s Tarris Reed Jr. realized he became a San Antonio Spur. Now he’s heading to the Alamo City to link up with former UConn champ Stephon Castle. "To play with a guy like that, that’s played under Coach Hurley and been in that UConn culture, he understands what it is. Having two UConn guys on the same team is like a cheat code,” said Reed. 🎥: via instagram user📱iamtarristeed (t/h @Jaeejv)

We prefer emoticons for our Spurs players so I’m dubbing Jayden Quaintance “Beefy Wemby.” 🍔💪🏽 Watch the tape and it should click instantly: 👇🏼 The Spurs’ new 6’10 draft pick with a 253 lb frame and a 7’5” wingspan has the elite length of Victor but the pure physical muscle to shield him from taking a beating on the block. On that note, I’m hearing rumblings from the far East that 7’5” 22-year-old CBA center Xu Xin (徐昕) has received an invite to join the Spurs for Summer League. His actual nickname in China? "国产文班亚马" literally translates to "Homemade Wemby." 🤯🇨🇳

Someone close to the situation reminded me that the Spurs’ young frontcourt pairing already has some history together. Just two years ago, before Carter Bryant headed to Arizona and Jayden Quaintance went to Kentucky, the two future first-round picks squared off at the 2024 McDonald’s All-American Game at Houston’s Toyota Center as two of the nation’s premier high school prospects. They never shared a high school, AAU, or college roster, but now Spurs GM Brian Wright has reunited them to pack the paint in San Antonio. Pretty cool full-circle moment. #PorVida

Spurs GM Brian Wright just reshuffled the Spurs’ draft board. After selecting Jayden Quaintance at No. 20, Brian Wright traded up from No. 35 to No. 26, sending two future second-round picks to Denver and landing UConn big man Tarris Reed Jr. As a result, the Spurs no longer own Pick No. 35 and enter Wednesday’s Round 2 with Picks No. 42 and No. 44. League chatter suggests those two picks could be on the move as well, so don’t be surprised if San Antonio isn’t done dealing. #PorVida

Coming straight out of Dan Hurley’s intense championship culture at UConn, Tarris Reed brings an uncompromising edge, and high IQ habits. After snagging Quaintance then trading back into the 1st round, the Spurs’ frontline just got a whole lot meaner.

“It’s all about the ACL and the medical…” Spurs get an A- grade for the selection of Jayden Quaintance on Draft Nigt after setting the table for “one of the most incredible interior defensive combinations” the NBA has ever seen. (🎥 via: @CBSSports)

Brian Wright takes a MASSIVE swing at No. 20. The San Antonio Spurs select Kentucky center Jayden Quaintance. A year ago, he was a locked-in top-10 lottery talent. Severe knee setbacks limited him to just 4 games at UK and kept him out of the Green Room tonight, but the raw upside is astronomical.  At 6’9” with a 7’5” wingspan, he projects as the ultimate vertical-spacing 5-man. If the Spurs' world-class medical staff can get him back to full strength, pairing his elite rim-protection and lob-catching next to Victor Wembanyama gives San Antonio a completely terrifying defensive shell for the next decade.  Huge gamble, but the ceiling is undeniable.

The Spurs just addressed one of their biggest weaknesses. With the 26th overall selection, San Antonio goes with UConn big man Tarris Reed Jr., a rugged 6-foot-10, 260-pound center known for his rebounding, defense, and willingness to handle the gritty work. The fit is obvious: Reed gives the Spurs another physical presence up front, helps absorb some of the wear and tear on Wemby, and brings the toughness fans were begging for during the Finals. #PorVida

Hold on! Brian Wright wasn’t done. According to Shams Charania, the Spurs acquired the No. 26 pick from Denver for the No. 35 pick and two future second-rounders, then used it on UConn center Tarris Reed Jr. At 6-foot-10 and 260 pounds, Reed brings exactly what Spurs fans have been asking for: size, rebounding, physicality, and interior defense. After selecting Jayden Quaintance at No. 20, San Antonio doubles down on frontcourt depth around Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs clearly heard the concerns about getting bigger. 👀 #PorVida

The Spurs have officially selected Jayden Quaintance with the No. 20 pick. This is the definition of a high-upside swing. Before injuries entered the picture, Quaintance was viewed as one of the most talented big men in his class. He brings elite defensive instincts, rim protection, switchability, and the kind of physical tools NBA teams dream about. The torn ACL and subsequent knee issues scared teams away, even though he was projected as a top 5 pick before his injury. Brian Wright just bet big on the talent but if the medicals check out, the Spurs may have landed a lottery-caliber prospect at No. 20. 👀 #PorVida
