@MichelBrewer @realtordotcom Paying taxes is part of being a well-adjusted adult living in a functioning society. Tax assessments generally go up even if the neighborhood characteristics don't change and even for Black and Hispanic neighborhoods. Property taxes are based on property value, not race.

@hoffridder @realtordotcom From the article:”Staats’ parents moved to E Austin in 1999, long before the historically Black and Hispanic neighborhood became one of the city’s hottest retail districts” why don’t you just say your a gentrifier?

When Willa Staats and her brother inherited their family's East Austin home and adjacent lot, they expected a windfall. Instead, they were hit with a $48,000 property tax bill, nearly 90% higher than what their father had paid and more than half of Staats' salary. As a longtime homeowner, their father had benefited from a homestead exemption capping annual tax increases at 10%. But when the property passed to his heirs, the taxable value reset to market rate, right at the peak of Austin's pandemic-era boom.

@TheICHpodcast $69k/yr × 75% after taxes × 20% ≈ $10k per year With cash it'd take 100 years... But he did say market so I guess it is possible

Videogame companies have no idea how insanely rich they could get by simply porting their old games to PC and putting a 20$ price tag on them with minimal effort

@LAallDay248 @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom Why should I have to pay tariffs and sales tax when I'm spending money I already paid taxes on? Also why are dividends taxed when the company already paid corporate income taxes? I can't answer these questions but the federal government is rapidly approaching insolvency so idk

@hoffridder @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom Irrevocable trusts blah blah blah. That’s not really relevant, though. The question asked that continues to go unanswered is why should any inheritor get taxed on money already taxed? Feel free to elaborate on why you think it’s reasonable, though.

@LAallDay248 @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom Yeah dude you live in California. I don't think I could name a more dysfunctional state in the US LMAO. Most states don't spend money destroying water storage infrastructure in a drought or billions on a tiny bridge that no one can use. Or la sombrita... Not worth it imo

@hoffridder @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom IF property taxes actually went to what it’s supposed to go to, sure. I’d support it. But the state governments do not know how to manage funds. I drive through neighborhoods to see friends or clients at their $5-$40m homes where roads have had pot holes for years. 😂

@hoffridder @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom It’s a bit more than that, but still. Why should what I earned, what I paid taxes on already, get taxed again before my kids get it?

@hoffridder @southsidejoeyb @realtordotcom A car and gas is not the same LOL. When you work hard for something and your kids get taxed on it, it’s bull shit. The government is the one acting entitled.

@southsidejoeyb @hoffridder @realtordotcom It is a thing, and it’s bull shit. Why should my kids have to pay taxes on something I already paid taxes on? Anyone who thinks otherwise is either broke with nothing to pass on or inherited nothing and is jealous of those that did inherit.

@LAallDay248 @hoffridder @realtordotcom Taxes on inheritance are a thing. Property taxes are a thing. Daddy got a break and kids have to foot the bill now. Dumb thing to write and article about, I'm not sure how he comes off as jealous

@samlakig It depends. If it's clay it could have organic material inside that could be used for carbon dating. Otherwise surface residues and surrounding sediments

@hackerfantastic @phortuenti If your speech hurts someone (ie - trauma, defamation, property damage, etc.) they can sue you in civil court. So if your goal is to hurt people then yes, not in the spirit of 1a but at least you they're not gonna put you in jail as a suspect like they do in the UK for example

@phortuenti Those first amendment audits are the stupidest thing I've seen on the Internet, going to places of worship and harassing people with your opinions on their religion. That's not in the spirit of free speech or exercising rights, it's just being an asshole..
