@DalaiLama So the Dalai Lama and the Pope will no longer employ guards or security assets, humans are so peaceful, we don't need security or saftey, they should practice what they preach.

Dalai Lama@DalaiLama·
MESSAGE I wholeheartedly endorse the powerful appeal for peace made by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, during his Palm Sunday Mass. His call for the laying down of arms and the renunciation of violence resonated profoundly with me, as it speaks to the very essence of what all major religions teach. Indeed, whether we look to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism or any of the world's great spiritual traditions, the message is fundamentally the same: love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline. Violence finds no true home in any of these teachings. History has shown us time and again that violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace. An enduring resolution to conflict, including the ones we see in the Middle East or between Russia and Ukraine, must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect — approached with the understanding that, at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters. I urge for and pray that the violence and conflicts may soon come to an end. DALAI LAMA 31 March 2026

@cremieuxrecueil Why has there been almost no other independent country that has achieved full industrialization like socialist China since the end of World War II?

@ValuSeeker20 @CliffordAsness That is a feature that should be considered a bug. I am not against a national healthcare program, but we avoid saying it is already here because of the perceived backlash that would come.

@kharrell91 @CliffordAsness Most ppl now use health care and health insurance interchangeably. ACA was passed bc it’s politically feasible to centrists and interest groups at the time. It tried to have elements of free market and profit motive. Now ppl are complaining that profit seeking raises costs.

I’m gonna say this and I know Texas haters will jump on, but… Texas is good at a LOT of sports. And sports in today’s day and age are EXPENSIVE to attend. Fans of schools that are good at 1 or 2 sports don’t have to make the kinds of financial decisions that fans of schools who are good at damn near everything do. I think Texas fans travel REALLY well in general and Texas is ALWAYS well represented. I will also concede that when you have been to Omaha literally HALF of the times Omaha has been a thing, the priorities - the uniqueness - of which games to attend can shift.
Dudy Noble Field@DudyNobleField

Texas' fan presence in Omaha was quite underwhelming compared to LSU/State/Ole Miss/Arkansas/Tennessee in recent years. The Texas brand is strong, but the Texas Baseball brand is not near as strong within their own fanbase as those 4 fanbases mentioned.

TRUMP CONFIRMED IRAN AGREED TO WHAT NOBODY ELSE COULD CONVINCE THEM TO DO: Trump reports that Iran has bent the knee and agreed to NEVER possess nuclear weapons. "They've agreed they will never have a nuclear weapon. They've agreed to that." WOW

@ValuSeeker20 @CliffordAsness I disagree. Accurately stating what is happening is more honest than pretending we are still talking about “insurance”. You can’t insure against a risk that is already realized.

@CliffordAsness I don't think he's saying to ignore preexisting conditions. The fundamental question of ACA is whether society should subsidize healthcare for low income earners. That's it. That's the entire debate. These tangents distract rather than help.

However, awakeningism does indeed have egalitarian roots, and the logic behind criticizing "liberalism" is not hard to understand, because liberalism itself contains the seeds of left-wing egalitarianism. The question is, can liberalism that removes egalitarianism in order to oppose awakeningism still be called liberalism?

Postliberals rage against the cultural biproducts of the academic woke left moving into the private sector. But Postliberals also endorse Marxist Anti-capitalism. So they misdiagnose the cause with crazy conspiracy theories that blame woke on "capitalism" and "libertarianism."

@mattyglesias The cool thing is that one day in the near future Trump isn't going to be the guy you're measuring for the GOP, but the Democratic Party is still going to be the Democratic Party.

@CatoInstitute @scottlincicome Who will get the refund? The consumer? Who gets how much? The retailer? Then the retailers would need to rollback prices to pre tariff prices and refund the consumer. Which consumers? The wholesaler? Same answer as the retailer. There’s no possibility of giving back tariff money

The United States owes almost $700 million more in interest for each month that US Customs delays the IEEPA tariff refunds, Cato’s @scottlincicome reports. The interest clock is ticking. ow.ly/T3U750YtOVm
