Ed Miliband is still refusing to grant new North Sea licences. Time and again, Keir Starmer has U-turned under pressure. I won’t stop pushing until he overrules Ed Miliband and does what everyone knows is right. Let’s get our oil and gas out of the ground. Fuel Britannia!

@mackeydee88 @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski When you add that to the numerous green levies - you come to one of the most expensive energy prices on earth . This is the net zero madness our leaders have imposed on us. Will lead to industrial suicide before we even hit 0 emissions

@Wodenwoken @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski We can’t use our own gas at cost price. It would be sold to the market by the private companies running it and then the government have to buy it back. We won’t save a penny

@speaksyn @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski I’m saying is we would pay almost the same price for our gas if we produced it or not, as we have to buy it from the market regardless. Not disregarding the tax it brings in. But surely the whole point is to make our bills cheaper which more drilling in the North Sea will not do

@mackeydee88 @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski So you are saying its better to not produce our own oil & gas in the NS & import our energy paying others £Bs like Norway all whilst missing out on average of £6.5Bn/yr in tax revenue which would be more if they extracted more. Were still going to be using oil/gas for next 25+yrs

@speaksyn @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski Ok so that’s all good but we still then sell that gas produced to the market and have to buy it back (incredibly expensive right now and forcing bills up). You saying you want to see this extra tax go towards offsetting bills? Because if it doesn’t, we all get poorer

@mackeydee88 @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski As of April 2026 an oil/gas company extracting from the UK North Sea faces a specialized tax regime with a marginal tax rate of 78%. Oil & gas companies have paid an average of £6.5 billion per yr in tax over the last 3 financial years (2022/23 to 2024/25). Drill more pay more

@speaksyn @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski You are forgetting that North Sea gas is not owned by the UK (thanks to cunt maggie). Private companies sell the gas to the market and the uk has to buy it back at market rate. So where are you getting this tax income from?

@mackeydee88 @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski No the UK doesnt import all its gas It currently produces around 40-55% of its natural gas from the North Sea. The remainder is imported primarily from Norway. So why the fuck are we not just producing 100% ourselves reaping the tax income from it adding security & jobs

@GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski Also we do have to import it, and will continue to need to import it en-masse. Whilst doing so we are susceptible to massive cost increases as pricing is largely proportional to the cost of crude. See ya later tosspot

@BemeBoy @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski We need new nuclear asap to support as a base load when wind isn’t blowing. Unfortunately we didn’t go down this route and went for shit loads of gas instead. France has considerably more nuclear power and so is shielded better when oil and gas prices are volatile

@mackeydee88 @GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski With wind you still need gas, idiot. Wind stops blowing, it’s unpredictable. You need expensive plants ready to ramp up as soon as that happens. Do you know who doesn’t have this problem? France.

@GhostHexpat @jezm @ZackPolanski The reason our bills are higher than other countries has almost nothing to do with renewables you clown. We are hugely gas dependant for energy and import 100% of it making us extremely susceptible to price shock. Do your research you thick fucker!

John Terry is Chelsea’s captain, leader, legend and an England great. But his recent liking of anti-immigration social media posts has been criticised by anti-racism groups and caused dismay at Chelsea, where he works as an academy mentor. It begs the question - can he ever have a major role in the sport he dominated as a player? ✍️ @DTathletic and @greggevans40 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/71486…
