FUN THREAD: I work at an assisted-living facility. About a month ago, I was talking with a 90-year-old resident about baseball, and he was telling me about the first game he ever went to. He couldn't remember the date, but he remembered enough details that I was able to find it.

@DanBartels2 To have the best defensive alignment Semien needs to move to 3B since he has experience there and have Bo play at 2B since he has some experience there opposed to 3B. Mets are already experimenting with Polanco at 1B so no need to gamble with other positions

Even with a sprained left knee last year, Bo Bichette had a lot left to give defensively He led MLB in the past with a 21-point DRS improvement from 2022 to 2023

@Baseball4Brains I remember basic fantasy hockey leagues where owning Mario (and Gretz) was banned because they were too much of an advantage!

I used to spend HOURS looking at the stats in my Dad’s newspapers when I was a kid. This takes me back, and while I was way too young to comprehend just how dominant Mario was, I definitely remember him lapping most of the league.

The WBC is key.

But Americans outside of immigrant groups, have zero interest in cricket (I can't follow who won even from the score), while a few regular Australians play and keep up with baseball. Similarly, there's a US college, St. Mary's, that does well in NCAA hoops w/Aussies.

@Steve_Sailer @BNightengale It's pretty niche here. Small pocket of hardcore fans. But mostly I get Aussies defensive about which one is better of Cricket or Baseball. I always say they are both great! But this playoffs seems to have broken through a bit.

@meyerball1 @BNightengale I get the impression that Australians keep up with about the world's largest variety of spectator sports, between their own national sports, and their moderate interest even in American baseball. (There are usually a few Aussie pitchers in the MLB each year).

@Steve_Sailer @BNightengale I live in Australia and I was stunned how many people came up to me telling me they watched game seven. With espn on Disney plus it’s given them a spot for many to watch it for no extra cost / effort.

@BNightengale Add in Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and a tiny bit of interest in Australia and Europe. Baseball isn't soccer or American football, but it's solidly in the 3rd tier of team spectator sports with basketball, ice hockey, and cricket, ahead of rugby.
