@zatzi Don't forget St Clare's - all about twins at school. I loved this just as much as Mallory Towers.

I wasn’t into Enid Blyton as a child but my daughter has read a couple and has put “more Enid Blyton books” on her Christmas list. I was thinking one of the series (Famous Five, Secret Seven, Mallory Towers etc) would be great but any recommendations as to which series a primary aged girl might enjoy most? 📕 🙏 👧 🌲

@Sacha_Lord @AllisonPearson Completely agree. The customer services skills you learn (actually, how to communicate effectively) are transferable into every job. I always speak about the huge value of such skills when I am speaking with young people. I waitressed from when I was 14 until I qualified at 29.

I honestly believe working in Hospitality, even just for a period, will set you up with skills for life… It will teach you, how to talk to anyone, think on your feet, work hard, deal with people, react to difficult situations and deliver exceptional customer service…skills that are invaluable in any career. Yet, too often, roles in Hospitality are passed off as ‘not a real job’…

@MartinKnight_ I did the same with a £5 note when I was about 11 and was very pleased a week later when I went back, and I was allowed to keep it!!

When I was about 8 or 9 i found a ten bob note on the path. I told my Dad who made me take it to the police station, much to my annoyance. The desk sgt took it & said come back in a week & if it hasn’t been claimed you can keep it. A week later I did come back & the smiling copper gave it to me. Seems so quaint now. The world has changed so much. My home town has a population of 69,000 & doesn’t even have a police station anymore.

Not so many people remember this book. The illustrations by Robert Lumley are brimming with character - but they’re more than a bit scary

Why are *all* printers so unspeakably terrible? They have always been terrible. Ever since IT lessons c.1999 I have known this. No matter the technological advances made elsewhere they remain uniformly awful. The devil has many faces: one is a beeping ‘printer malfunction’ button

Gregg Wallace and his attitudes to women of his own age in the entertainment industry, are exactly why I launched my #ActingYourAgeCampaign six years ago. The BBC promised to me for two years they would work with me under their #5060Gender initiative. Then didn’t bother ….
