He is a very good interior pass rusher.
I do have a question though.
Is this them admitting they reached on Mykel Williams? They told us one Mykel’s greatest strength is interior rushing on passing downs. Yet they are still searching for that smaller quicker interior pass rusher seems like, despite drafting 2 young run stopping DTs last season along with Mykel.
I think they expected more disruption from Mykel as an interior pass rusher than what they got year 1.

@profdicks @KNBR They’re still in their contention window. Trading him and putting in a rookie (into a position with one of the more complicated blocking schemes in the league) starts a rebuild prematurely. Unless someone gives up 2 1sts and 2 3rds over the next two years it doesn’t make sense.

If the #49ers’ biggest 2026 acquisition is getting healthy, they are going to have a rough year.
-They lost to the Rams 42-26 on November 9th
-They lost to the Seahawks 13-3 on January 3rd
-They lost again to the Seahawks 41-6 on January 17th.
-Getting Bosa, Fred, and Mykel Back will obviously help, but SF has a dozen needs that have to be filled and a few that must be filled with foundational types of players. Getting those new team pillars had better be the biggest offseason acquisitions or the Niners are completely cooked. The truth: Seattle is younger and more talented. The 49ers were among the NFL’s oldest rosters in ‘25.
This offseason needs to be more about building the new core, then trying to squeeze 1 or 2 more good years out of the old core.

No matter what the 49ers do this free agency, their biggest 2026 acquisition will be a return to health. And it's one they must generally retain throughout the season. Many will lose sight of this, but it's the fundamental truth behind SF's situation and offseason strategy. Players better than Fred Warner and Nick Bosa aren't available on the market

The smarter move for the #49ers would be to NOT pay 38-year-old LT Trent Williams $50M more and instead save that money, spread it around your roster, and trade him to the Houston Texans for Aireontae Ersery and a day 3 pick. You have to be cold in pro football personnel. Don’t fall in love.
