I’m a black belt in Judo now. 🥋 This is unironically one of the greatest accomplishments of my adult life.

@Deathstar198 @tacitdimension 1. Spending on tacky consumer goods. 2. Alcohol, gambling etc. 3. Thinking the good times will last forever and not saving for the future/retirement. 4. Thinking the system will take care of you in old age and not preparing for hard times.

Whatever Balkan country I ended up in, I met some strong-ass guy who did old-style Japanese jujutsu and for some reason he understood Russian just fine.

I had a dream I had a layover somewhere either in Croatia or Serbia. I remember being anxious about flying to Serbia because of the Islam hatred there (idk if Croats are any different).

Ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Hāshimī
The hostility shown by many who identify as Muslims toward refugees in their host countries only serves to highlight the extraordinary virtue of the Anṣār. While some today call for refugees to be turned away, expelled, or returned to the very oppression from which they fled, the Anṣār welcomed the Muhājirūn with open hearts and open homes. Allah praised them in the Qur’an: “And those who had settled in the Home and adopted faith before them love those who emigrated to them and find no desire in their hearts for what they were given, but give them preference over themselves even though they are in need.” (59:9) The Anṣār did not merely grant asylum. They shared their wealth, their homes, their livelihoods, and their lives. They stood shoulder to shoulder with the Muhājirūn on the battlefield, defending them against the very forces that had persecuted and expelled them. This is why the bond between the Anṣār and the Muhājirūn remains one of the greatest examples of brotherhood in human history. The Anṣār did not ask, “What burden will these refugees place upon us?” Rather, they asked, “How can we help our brothers for the sake of Allah?” Their example stands as a lasting testimony to the meaning of īmān, sacrifice, and selflessness. May Allah be pleased with the Anṣār and the Muhājirūn, and reward them with the best of rewards.

In 1483, the Timurid Emir of Samarkand, Sultan Ahmed Mirza, sent two rare lions as a gift to the Ming Emperor. Previous embassies had also brought lions as gifts, which the Chinese court found useless and expensive to keep. So, when the envoys Paluwan and Hoja Mahmad arrived at the border with the lioness Hasinah (Beauty), they were stopped and left waiting for months. During that time, they commissioned this near-life-size painting which they sent with their pleas to the imperial court. If you zoom in, you can find their names in gold Chinese characters. There are also verses by the Emperor at the top along with the date of the event and the imperial seal.

The vitality and freshness expressed by this work of the highest artistic value is astonishing. It's hard to believe it was created nearly 350 years ago. (From the Ueno National Museum, Tokyo)
