@BuggHive This is actually very simple: Aang likes Katara b/c she's the first girl he's ever seen in his life. Cherry on top that she's nice to him. Katara likes Aang b/c he's THE FUCKING AVATAR. Hope this helps!

The truth is despite how much I LOVE Avatar the last airbender, I never really liked Aang and Katara's relationship. It demonstrably looked like something born out of convenience & fate for the most part, rather than genuine attraction and desire. It's a hill I will die on.

the only thing i really liked about The Boys when i watched it was how blatant it was about supes existing as celebrities and tools of capital and not as real heroes. fights resort to punches bc none of them actually know how to use their powers bc they’re for show
Bork 😩@BorkEternal

Great scene but it’s indicative of one of the show’s biggest problems; all these superheroes with a variety of superpowers but fights almost always resort to just a big punch up

Slate ran a big splashy feature on the decline of nudist resorts but failed to mention, except obliquely, one of the two big reasons for the decline.

the whole “American birth rate crisis” thing is just that we successfully stopped teen pregnancies, by the way. people aren’t not having kids because of candy crush or whatever, the sex ed programs just worked and sixteen year olds aren’t having kids anymore.

“We've stopped making babies. We've decided that being distracted by a dopamine hit around Candy Crush might be a good way to spend your time. Not if you're a full human," former Sen. Ben Sasse says in an extended interview. cbsn.ws/4cA1Jrp

women love the dr. seuss fruits. unclear why. they are not satisfied with the normal bounty of this earth. persimmon: what is that? men do not know. imagine going to your male friends house and he offers you a gooseberry. unfathomable.

@narmbo I think it makes perfect sense. The Batman was a movie. Superman (2025) was a *comic book* movie. Both excellent, of course

I CAN'T EVEN SAY WHY! because the batman movie was cool. i was like okay, i'd love to see another one of those. but superman i immediately pivoted to comics, i read last days of lex luthor and then absolute batman and i've been going to my local comic book shop a ton since
Misty Moon 🌙@AHeartbreakSky

I think one of the enduring legacies of Superman (2025) is definitely going to be how it made a whole new group of people excited to read comics and invested in continuing to read them moving forward. Idk how many other CBMs can say they’ve had that impact.

You’re laughing, some of the most evil men in history died slow painful deaths because their hangman was an oaf who was so dumb he died from electrocution while changing a lightbulb and standing in a pool of water at the same time, and you’re laughing

This is John C Woods, the hangman of Nuremberg trials, who lied about being experienced to get the job. He claimed to have learned from old cowboy movies His incompetency led to excessive suffering of condemned Nazis

The English/German folkway of having a bit of low alcohol beer all the time and in a wholesome set and setting is one of the best correctives to the current trend of binary choice between teetotalling and partying. It really is a skill issue.
Jasmine@bustanutkeaton

It sucks that beer is not socially normal to have at kids’ birthday parties in the US because that’s when I most want a beer. When people say German parenting culture is superior, what they really mean is there’s always beer.

so apparently the concept of a teenager basically did not exist until post-WWII. a specific combination of historical forces produced a new class of young people who all had to go to high school, could not work on farms or in mills or factories anymore, and had access to money and cars. the entire rebellious teenager trope was created in this time period so it refers specifically to boomers rebelling against the silent generation, who grew up in a completely different world. the generation gap here was so stark this is also where the term "generation gap" even comes from, and i think the whole practice of naming distinct generations saturdayeveningpost.com/2018/02/brief-…

We have 3 teenagers now, 16/15/13. I cannot understand the idea that teenagers are any kind of problem. I love hanging out with them, and, surprisingly, the feeling is mutual. Every stage of parenthood has been delightful.
