Whenever I start dating a new girl, I contact my last 5 ex-girlfriends and pay for an all expenses trip for them to fly in and be at a dinner together
Me, the current girl, the 5 exes. A table of 7
Then, I have the current girl explain to all the other girls why she alone deserves to steal me from all the other girls
The dinner lasts 4 hours so everyone gets an opportunity to talk
I remain silent for the 4 hours
All exes are allowed to ask any questions they like to the new girl. But they must also allow the new girl at least 60 seconds to respond to each question before asking the subsequent question
As someone who believes in compassion above all other qualities, it’s important for me to let each woman in the room fully understand the moral context and potential harm of her own actions
The current girl isn’t just beginning a new relationship on a blank slate. She’s actively choosing to deny all the other women of a lifetime of happiness and love
She shouldn’t be in denial about this. She should face it directly and acknowledge it, by staring directly into the eyes of all the others women, feeling their pain and fielding their questions. And if she truly has no adequate response, she should accept this and leave prior to the 4 hours being up
At the end of the 4 hours, all exes vote privately and anonymously as to whether the new girl deserves to remain with me (and therefore deprive them of a lifetime of happiness)
If all women at the table vote “she does NOT deserve it”, then my payment for their trip is reversed and they must all pay for their flights/hotels
Likewise, if all women at the table vote that “she DOES deserve it, then likewise the payment for their trip is reversed and they must all pay
The only acceptable composition of votes is a mixture of both yes and no
This means everyone at the table has an incentive to defect from a unanimous consensus in either direction, so no woman can ever benefit from covertly trying to influence all the other women into voting a certain way
Additionally, before the dinner begins, I always write down privately (with no observers) whether I believe the current girl is the right one, then I place it in an envelope stuck underneath the dinner table
It either says “she is the one”
Or “she is not the one”
The new girl has no idea this prediction exists
The 5 exes only know this prediction may sometimes happen based on prior dinners they attended, but they are never given any confirmation that a prediction has been made and/or matters
In truth, only the prediction I made prior to the dinner determines the future of the relationship. It is fixed and never changes. The vote by the exes has zero impact on it
However, the vote does determine whether I pay for all of the exes trips, so long as their votes also satisfy the rules before of no unanimous verdicts
If the exes make a majority vote in alignment with the prediction I placed under the table prior to the dinner, then I pay for everything
If it is at odds with the prediction, then I pay for nothing
When the new girl walks into the room, she believes she is being evaluated by all the other women
If she tries to perform for the room and respond strategically to what is asked of her by the exes, she is acting locally rational by thinking the dinner is the game she must win. In actuality, the game ended before the dinner began
Likewise, if she is simply herself then she can “win” by being exactly who I evaluated her to be prior to the dinner beginning
However, regardless of whether the vote matches my prediction or not, I always break up with the new girl
Because a girl who is genuinely worth choosing would always refuse to attend out of her own moral reasoning, since the entire dinner is designed to systematically selects against the quality it pretends to test for
One day, when a girl says no despite my complete deadpan insistence that she must attend for weeks on end, then I will marry her in a heartbeat

imagine you’re Travis Kalanick
you built Uber from nothing into a $70 billion company and changed how every city on earth moves
then in the worst three weeks of your life, family tragedies hit, and five of your investors hand you a letter demanding you resign
so you step down
the board replaces you, your successor and board sell off the self driving division you created, the thing you believed was Uber’s entire future
gone
$4 billion to Aurora
the mainstream media tries to write your obituary: toxic culture, bad leadership, and a cautionary tale
silicon valley moves on
as they always do
but you don’t
you don’t really forget
you go quiet, completely quiet
you take $150 million and buy a ghost kitchen company called CloudKitchens
you raise over a billion dollars, hit a $15 billion valuation, build a company with thousands of employees
and nobody even knows the name
eight years in stealth, employees aren’t even allowed to put your company on their LinkedIn
then today you rename the company Atoms, and it’s not a kitchen company anymore
it’s a robotics company
1. food
2. mining
3. transport
your first move?
acquiring Pronto
the autonomous vehicle startup
built by Anthony Levandowski, the same engineer you originally swooped away from Google to build Uber’s self driving program
oh and he went on to deploy 100+ autonomous trucks for one of the largest materials companies on earth
now he’s coming back to work with you
and the reports say Uber itself
the same company that pushed you out, is now backing you to go after self driving harder than Waymo
the guy they removed is the guy they end up needing
poetic justice
your framework aka everything in civilization is mined or grown, manufactured and moved
you call it the golden age
your manifesto ends with three words:
“I never left”
eight years of silence
then this
but here’s what people keep getting wrong about your situation
everyone wants to call it a comeback or a revenge story
it’s neither
you just went quiet and built for eight years while everyone who wrote you off had stopped paying attention
that’s not revenge, that’s just what true builder obsession looks like
most founders would’ve stayed bitter
most would’ve written a book and done a podcast tour, most would’ve taken the $2.5 billion in shares and disappeared off to a beach or Epstein’s island
you didn’t do any of that
you just kept building
and now the same people who pushed you out need you again
so whether you love him or hate him
the most dangerous person in any room is the one who goes quiet yet never stops building
karma is real
welcome back Travis

Here's what I sincerely don't get.
Star Trek has always been coded as extremely left. Liberal. Woke. Whatever you want to call it.
And now that we're creating Star Trek like technology, which is explicitly required to create a Star Trek like post-capitalist society, all the leftists are up in arms about AI.
Unless I'm missing something.

@aleabitoreddit @nikitabier Can we PLEASE get the dodo bird back? It’s 2026 and it’s time. Mars isnt going anywhere and ASI can wait.
English

@nikitabier Colossal and $DNA are kinda doing that now, so a new startup is definitely possible.
Colossal sequenced the Dodo bird and are trying to recreate the woolly mammoth now.
Then Ginkgo revived some extinct flowers.
Don’t give Elon ideas for making a trex

@ArtemisConsort You are describing a classic economic principle known as perverse incentives. When a system rewards a specific status or behavior, it naturally attracts more people to that category, even if the underlying condition is something generally considered undesirable.
English

If you incentivize something, you get more of it. *Having* a disability, in and of itself, is obviously bad. *Saying* you have one is beneficial.
Same with the SF homelessness problem. Gee, why does the city that’s most accommodating to the homeless have so many homeless?
Jeff Weniger@JeffWeniger
Here is a very normal chart that we shouldn't debate or scrutinize in any way.
English

I think people deserve a good explanation as to why proper diplomatic measures haven't been properly tried if we're going to blatantly diagnose the issue with this disturbingly literal meme.
It's a bit of a cuck move to simply let the techno capital machine eat your free will. I am disturbed by everyone's resigned acquiescence.

Set up clawdbot to text my wife good morning and good night every day. Also casual “how are you” messages during the workday.
24 hours later, it was having full-on conversations without me even being involved.
This tech is absolutely insane.
I haven’t talked to my wife for at least two days now, and she seems happier than ever.

cancelled our corporate @OpenAI account today; We were spending ~ $10k a year
@xai is better for real time data
@Gemini is better for travel, local YouTube
& @claudeai is much better for corporate (Cowork and Project features specifically)
ChatGPT isn’t keeping up imo — and I don’t trust them with my corporate data
Long game, but I think ChatGPT is 4th place now

@enfilmigult @RealMissAI @SCHIZO_FREQ Useless homilies about wealth is distraction without foundation. Real wisdom is built on purpose and exactitude.
English

@RealMissAI @SCHIZO_FREQ I thought wealth was built by getting people to pay to hear useless homilies about wealth being a sign of good character

One of my best guy friends, 41, took a weekend trip with his new girlfriend, 25.
• She hadn't packed when he arrived to pick her up...
• Halfway to the airport, she realized she forgot her REAL ID…
• Then she refused to leave their hotel room until he ran to CVS to buy her a hairbrush, because she forgot that too…
Lord knows I support age-gap relationships, but this sounds more like parenting than dating 🤣

@SwipeWright It was a well written article but, yes, thought the contents were mostly common knowledge. In other words, one either agreed or disagreed with discriminating against white men at the point. Maybe it’s just the right time and the right article - a watershed moment
English

I’m surprised the Compact article on the systemic discrimination against millennial white men went so viral, as I thought this reality was already widely understood.
I’m glad it’s finally receiving the attention it deserves, but this isn’t something we can simply shrug off. What occurred was a massive and prolonged civil rights violation, and the individuals and institutions that participated in it must be held accountable.
It’s time to sue the bejesus out of those responsible.
EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas@andrealucasEEOC
Are you a white male who has experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex? You may have a claim to recover money under federal civil rights laws. Contact the @USEEOC as soon as possible. The EEOC is committed to identifying, attacking, and eliminating ALL race and sex discrimination — including against white male employees and applicants. Visit EEOC.gov to learn more and read our one-page explainer about DEI-related discrimination.

@nikitabier How do I tune the algo to display additional gas station fight videos?
English

The goal for your X timeline is to get out of the mainstream algo and the political crusades and find your niche.
You should be able to post about your interests and have friendly, relevant people chime in.
If you’re seeing gas station fight videos, your account is not ramped up yet.
We are working everyday to fix this.

I'm obsessed with this bizarre underrated film genre- usually by beloved mainstream director who gets a big budget for a passion project - typically has insane action sequences/ fight choreo, tormented female protagonist, slightly experimental juxtaposition of film genres that seems to alienate a lot of ppl, insane post prod/ coloring. (ex: sucker punch, ANNA, elita battle angel, reminiscence). - that are kinda panned by critics or fans because I suspect they're marketed at the incorrect demographic - because on the surface they are action films but deep down they are romances or female coming of age movies or smthn. they usually semi-flop by industry standards. even tho I'm for sure the ideal target audience of this kind of film I find out about them way too late, usually by ppl complaining about them. They seem to cause ppls brains to short circuit
I desperately want more of these but we don't get them often cuz they tend to be high budget and perhaps perceived as high risk
I'd just like to argue that since art criticism seems to be in a weird place rn its my opinion that it's worth revisiting a lot of these films
Star Wars episode 8 was sort of one of these and I was SO sad when Rian Johnson didn't get to finish the series cuz he diverted too much from the obvious quest and it upset the core fanbase. I suspect Joker 2 may hit this niche but these r in bigger franchises so idk
Potential things that fit this category that did hit their target audience being like kill bill, arcane, the oa, etc- (imo im talking nonsense cuz im not a film critic and no one will read thus but it's been on my mind forever).

The Israel Hamas war is not Vietnam. Young people in the U.S. were directly impacted by the draft and it was an easy call that we should not be sending thousands to die overseas for a lost cause. Who cares what a bunch of 19 year olds think about the latest chapter in an ancient struggle? One may disagree with Israel's tactics but the bandwagon these students are on is just the fashionable one that will be replaced by the next moral crusade whenever the winds blow a different direction.

I’m single and one of my fears of getting married is the thought of having to sleep with another human for the rest of my life. Like the act of sleeping.
I’d much prefer my own bed, and my wife can have hers. Does a king size bed solve this issue?
Do I need to talk to my therapist about this one? 😂Sleep is so precious. I’m sure once I meet my person, my thinking may change.
