@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti Yeah I don’t care how you feel about abortion. I’m saying it makes literally no sense for Superman to take this technology he doesn’t have to completely undermine what a woman may actually want in this scenario just because of how you think he might feel about abortion.

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti That's my point. A woman in distress can be less morally culpable, but it doesn't change the fact that murdering a baby is wrong. An addict is less culpable, but it doesn't change the fact that doing opium is wrong.

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti And your opium analogy doesn’t do what you think it does. If the addict is less culpable for his actions, that reduces moral responsibility. That exact same logic can apply to someone seeking an abortion.

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti Said no universal moralist ever. Context matters without changing the moral principle. A man who has been an addict to opium for 10 years is much less culpable than the man who does opium for the first time. It's wrong to do opium, but the man who is an addict is guilty of less

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti Then they have no idea wtf they’re talking about because that is literally by definition contextual ethics. If being a first time user vs an addict changes culpability, that is literally changing the moral outcome. That is not “universal morality”.

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti No because by definition universal morality literally means that context does not matter otherwise it wouldn’t be universal.

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti So then Superman can uphold universal morality that is flexible with context; it bends but it doesn't break. It can bend in creative ways towards a woman not wanting her child, but it won't break by murdering the baby

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti How I would vote is completely irrelevant to Superman looking at context when deciding what decisions to make. I could give less of a shit about Democrats or Republicans; I’m an Independent.

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti So like I just said… he doesn’t have a universal moral framework because other things like who the person is and why they did what they did contribute to the decisions that he makes…

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti Clark would believe in adopting anyone he seems redeemable because he never gives up on those who can be redeemed. He always believes that forgiveness and mercy and kindness can change someone

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti What are you talking about? The entire reason this panel exists is because he killed someone. If Clark believed “you’re a terrible person if you kill” just universally, then the response would not have been to basically adopt David. He has that response because context matters.

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti Right just like he has this magical anti abortion ray in his ice castle because the city of Kandor exists… (which by the way he’s not even the reason Kandor was shrunken). He can’t unshrink them bc he doesn’t have the technology for it.

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti He wouldnt be, but he wouldn't let the mother (and certainly not Lois!) play judge and jury with an innocent baby's life. He wouldn't let any mother "punch down" on her defenseless baby, ESPECIALLY when there are non-lethal options (there always are)

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti Do you even know what happens in this series? Clark doesn’t punish him for the killing at all. He literally fosters David. He is not making a universal claim about murder being unjustifiable in every situation. And a fetus requires a completely different moral framework anyway.

@scrib_e @sttrangecacti It doesn't have to explicitly appear. Pretty sure if Clark can keep a whole miniaturized city surviving and thriving he can do the same for a pre-born baby. We can do that now, and can all but safely remove the baby painlessly. Kryptonians certainly could

@RidingTheTiger1 @sttrangecacti He literally says “we are not judge and jury” in this panel. So why would he be playing judge and jury with abortion? 😭
