@RT_com Is it dumb to think they could have stop lights at runway intersections when they are in use?

@TheProjectUnity You included a red arrow to the stone steps that were obviously built recently to accommodate tourists? I agree that later cultures like the Inca inherited the most impressive stone work but it’s a complicated story obscured by recent renovations.

Mainstream archeologists will tell you that the RED ARROW work and the GREEN ARROW work are BOTH the work of the Bronze Age Inca, some 600 years ago. Does it look like the same people? Or does it look like people found this place and built less advanced work around it?

I learned from recent overwhelming Times Sq messaging, on ads and in other forms, that the big cultural push now is glorifying being heavy. There's even a musical about it.

@RamboVanHalen @TheyTrulyHateU transforming Montañez’s career—he later rose to an executive position at PepsiCo, Frito-Lay’s parent company. His story gained widespread attention, though some debate exists about the exact timeline and contributions, with Frito-Lay acknowledging Montañez as the driving force.

@RamboVanHalen @TheyTrulyHateU he experimented with adding spices to unflavored Cheetos at the company's Rancho Cucamonga plant. In 1991, he pitched the concept to Frito-Lay executives, including CEO Roger Enrico, who greenlit the product. Flamin' Hot Cheetos hit the market in 1992 and became a massive succes

@RamboVanHalen We were fed a lot of trash cartoons as kids but I remember watching Robotech on tv back in the 80's when I was 9 or 10. Mind Blown. Say what you will about the 1980's but being part of a subculture back then meant something. You can't explain it to todays youth.

Kids today will never understand the struggle… When I was growing up in the 1980s USA children’s TV was horrible. Saturday morning cartoons, and afterschool cartoons was just cheap schlock. The animation was bad, the story was bad, the voice acting was bad. It was all bad. But we watched it. Mainly because there was nothing better to keep us occupied. Kids cartoons were (and still are) a vehicle to sell toys and sugary breakfast cereal. It should be noted that this is not a public service. As such they produced these shows as cheaply as possible. The goal (as with any business) was to maximize profits. So the content only contained enough creative quality to keep the kids engaged. Media is a funny business. Because in film, television, music, and even publishing—what I’d call the “Entertainment Industry”—there’s a tension between the artistic incentives and the business incentives. You have people who want to make art, and people who want to make money, and those interests often come into conflict. And Media can be powerful force. But it’s not as powerful as the political powers that wish to harness it. So in the interest of self preservation the media will often bend a knee to the politicians. You can see this in the kid’s cartoons of the 1980s. On shows like He Man there was an “educational” segment at the end of every episode. “Today He Man and Cringer learned an important lesson about the value of honesty…” Some shows would talk about morals, others would talk about health and nutrition. But it was always there. These education segments were done for purely cynical reasons. It certainly wasn’t done to educate children. I was done to give the TV networks political cover. Because media is something we all consume, and can all relate to. So it makes an easy scapegoat for larger social and economic issues. For example, if the networks were accused by demagogic politicians of “rotting the morals of America’s youth” the executives could counter that akshually, 15% of every episode is dedicated to moral messaging which is an 7.5% increase from last season so shove it Strom Thurman. By the mid-2010s there’d been a changing of the guard in DC, and the media started bending a knee to a new regime. Now the studios and networks had to be prepared to say things like “Akshually Congresswoman, we have 19% more BiPOC roles across all of our networks and streaming platforms”. So if you’re wondering where most of the woke garbage in media comes from, that’s it. The industry is just sucking up to power. And of course there are people in the industry who actually believe in this garbage. There always have been. But the moderating voices have been marginalized or completely pushed out. They had to be pushed out. Because the powers that be—the real powers—demanded it. So, at the end of 2024 we find ourselves at another changing of the guard. And I’m sure the entertainment industry will temped to bend a knee to this new power. If they do (and I’m certain they will) it’s a sign that Trumpism is truly ascendant. I imagine we can expect a revival of jingoistic patriotism in the media. I’m sure you’re asking yourself, “Rambo, what’s wrong with jingoistic patriotism?” Well, i actually like jingoistic patriotism. And I like Donald Trump. And maybe we do need more patriotic content. And I really hope we can create space in media for some sort of true diversity. But I don’t like the idea of being forced to appease cynical pharisaic politicians. I don’t like it because the art inevitably suffers. I don’t think we can stop this process. The business interests will always bend the knee to power. And I certainly don’t think I can do anything stop it—I’m just a humble poster and semi-retired film worker. But what I’d like to see is artists being able to create art without political considerations and free of prescribed ideology. Let them make what they need to make, and let the public judge if it’s worthy. I’d urge you to let the artists make art, and let the public enjoy it. Because we all need good art. So let them make art.

@turbovax Guys that's not a fdny chief. Right there on the plate it says NYSHFC Chief. Which means he's the chief of the NY State Honorary Fire Chiefs. And considering their website lists someone who's an advertising/marketing agency CEO, I'd say that tracks.
