@NYCEMSwatch Ambulance services are a loss. They get no bump/pat for all the uninsured/underinsured etc who dont pay their bill, or the insane number of 90s/RMAs. If they operate at a permanent loss, then they need to bring patients back to fund the service. If not, they cant run it.

Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island, has taken one of its six ambulances out of service during overnight hours as of Sunday.

@NYCEMSwatch I'm not sure that's an entirely fair way to look at it. The hospital also needs to have income to run the ambulances. With Medicaid/care reimbursement being what it is, hospitals need to consider bring back rates to determine if they can feasibly run their ambulances. With FDNY

@KeruboSk Have you considered an EMS career? Nearly everyone you will work with has ADHD, a touch of autism, or both. The neurotypicals are few and far between that theyre a tiny minority. Come visit your local weewoo wagon and see where the nearest EMT class is at. You might like it.

FDNY didn't like that I reported that a lot of ambulances are not in service. So, what does FDNY do? They changed the target number of ambulances in service from 488 to 332, and shed the fleet roster down to 617 ambulances. So that means FDNY now has 285 spare ambulances today.

So, thanks to 'The FDNY Ministry of Truth' the Fleet Availability for Monday, February 9, 2026 shows FDNY is not short any ambulances today.
However FDNY is down 36 ladders & 47 engines. The @NYCcouncil & @JoannAriola32 should find out why FDNY needs 302 spare ambulances.

@joshkimbre @NYCEMSwatch I saw that one in action in DC. 45min wait for help for an unresponsive patient. Fire took 20+ to arrive and stood around doing the stare of life while we awaited AMR.

@UrbisRuri @NYCEMSwatch You think so? Typically cities work out a deal with these private services that benefits both parties. DC F&EMS for example. I imagine if one of those agencies didn't want it AMR would salivate over it.

No need for FDNY EMS EMTs under a plan where FDNY EMS will be reserved for critical calls, and non critical calls will be handed off to a private transport provider.

@joshkimbre @NYCEMSwatch Yeah but who's going to take it? SCEMS? Ambulnz? Nobody wants these calls without guaranteeing the patient has insurance. That's not going to work for a good chunk of those calls.
