I’ve just seen this angle of the Arsenal penalty incident and I stand corrected, Keane treads on Havertz heal and it’s clearly a penalty and probably a red card too 🟥 I hold my hands up again 🙌

@HACKETTREF Referees should be sent to stunt school to see how people fake fall. Everybody else but refs can spot it so they clearly need special help. VAR got it right for once and in record time.

I feel the "winter break" debate coming on again in the Premier League. It’s obviously needed - even with expanded squads, elite players risk fatigue, less training time etc - but too many vested interests preventing it happening.

Players who go down holding their face when there was no contact, or when the contact was nowhere near their face, should receive a retrospective one-match ban.

@maxrushden They always over complicate it. Either let linesman do it and it’s just their call as it always was or put sensors in the tongue of players boots and automate it, if the sensor is off side then that’s that.

@henrywinter Pointless until you have competent referees with a back bone. They were better when part time and had real jobs, they were less self important.

More work for officials with IFAB changes – if leagues opt in - but at least the law-makers are attempting to tackle time-wasting by players. But the biggest time-wasting is by pernickety officials with VAR. Technology needed but it has to be for “clear and obvious” mistakes only. The original intention. No to re-refereeing. IFAB says changes “a decisive and forward-looking step in ensuring that football remains fast, fair and dynamic” but not if taking 2+ mins. IFAB also not addressed the six-yard-mosh-pit at corners. Anyway, today’s changes applicable from World Cup on include… 1. If a ref believes throw-in or goal-kick being deliberately delayed, there will be a five-second countdown. If exceed countdown, throw-in awarded to oppo while goal-kick becomes oppo’s corner. Definitely worth seeing in action, seeing if it speeds up the game. 2. Substituted players must leave pitch within 10 seconds of board being displayed. If they dally, the player coming on “will not be permitted to enter until the first stoppage after one minute of play has elapsed”. Definitely with looking at in action. Some players turn into snails when subbed. One issue is if the player coming off elects to go across pitch towards dug-out rather than step off the field, and go round pitch past opposition fans. 3. Injured players – requiring on-field assessment or simply causing play to be stopped – have to go off and stay off “for one minute once play has restarted”. 2xPL 30-sec. Be interesting to see how this pans out: yes, it prevents/punishes time-wasting but it also punishes a team whose player has been only briefly incapacitated. 4. More VAR. VAR now permitted to check and review: red cards arising from a clearly incorrect second yellow; mistaken identity “when the referee penalises the wrong team for an offence resulting in a red or yellow card being shown to the wrong player”; and competitions may allow VARs “to review a clearly incorrectly awarded corner kick, provided that the review can be completed immediately and without delaying the restart”. Clear and obvious, yes. And be quick about it. Also: eight subs allowed in friendly internationals and could be up to 11 if both teams agree. Also also: IFAB backing trials over measures to combat goalkeeper tactical injury delays; consultation measures to address “players covering their mouth when confronting opponents”; and Arsene’s Wenger “daylight” offside rule to continue being trialled. Somebody once said that football's beauty was in its simplicity.

@EllBretland 3 players there who will not be at the club next season, Gueye, McNeil & Beto. Don’t think any of them offer anything more than the alternatives on the bench who will be here long after so why bother with them?

I've liked McNeil during parts of his time at Everton but the manager said yesterday that players not getting a game need to improve to start. McNeil hasn't shown much in games this season but is back in from the cold. It's all contradiction at this point, making little sense.

@jim_keoghan Not if one of them is Mykelenko, Branthwaite is a better left back by far, Garner also is.

Can we not just play a game where one of our full backs isn’t a centre half? Everyone else seems to manage it

@EllBretland 3 centre backs and Aznou and Petterson wing backs surely has to be worth a go.

I would always play Branthwaite at CB with Garner and Dewsbury-Hall in front of him in CM. No matter the situation, that would be my non-negotiable when picking the team every week. You need defined roles and then suddenly you have familiarity, consistency, clarity, momentum.

@PED7 Moyes is not the problem. Since he has come in we have looked competent and competitive in pretty much every game, compared to years of clueless football.

The big decision the club has to make now is actually how good are we? Are we better than we are showing and capable of creating alot more chances & we need to rethink the manager? Or are we crap & actually Moyes is doing a good job & by binning him we'd end up like West Ham?

@TacticallyMatt Moyes first spell corners were very creative but we had people who could whip a corner, we don’t know balls in are awful.

Would add - would be nice to see a bit of variety from set-pieces. Mind-numbing seeing them try the same thing every time.

@LeeFMc83 We all know and have been saying our full backs are awful, facts are Branthwaite is better than Mykelenko and Garner is better than Patterson. Hopefully it’s more of a back 3 when we have the ball.

@RBMersey Team performance at home has struggled because of lack of quality full backs and a striker. Also both fans & team have not been able to establish routines because of stupid fixture dates & times.
