In this video, Li explains how similar projects across several other islands are changing daily life. But as Li points out, getting kids to school is only part of the picture. If I could go back in time, I would have stayed out of tech. I was on the machine operator route, but my interest in computers led me down another path. I could have made bank and stayed on my feet instead of going numb and weak in an office chair blasting my eyes with blue light

Women can’t “choose” marriage. Men have to do that. Women aren’t turning down proposals for careers. The “choice” is an online delusion, there is no option for most women. Men don’t want to get married until later or not at all. Men are not proposing. They may have good & fair reasons but u can’t say it’s because women are “choosing” careers. Most women would choose marriage over a career in a heartbeat

I'm sure this is true, and it's also likely that the replacement for one of these initial players would be a "true believer" who is willing to die for the cause as opposed to a duplicitous narcissist who lies and manipulates for personal gain. Perhaps even more dangerous.

There is absolutely no way anyone is going to murder their way to an AI pause, if anything killing the heads of leading AI companies would embolden B string players. These ineffectual attacks alone may tilt these companies' PR toward obsfucation on matters important to the public

I’ve seen a few people promote a theory that if X brings in new communities (e.g., women, vloggers) that it will somehow damage their community’s experience. This is categorically false: the Timeline algorithm serves tons of niches that you never see. Growth of new audiences will not pollute your Timeline (and if it does, that is a failure of the algorithm and we will fix it). X is for everyone and the product only gets more resilient and more relevant when more people are on here.

It’s not just the doomers who need to accept responsibility; the labs also need to tone it down with their marketing. “AI will replace all jobs in 6 days” and “Our model is too dangerous to release!!” has to stop. We all need to take responsibility to lower the temperature

Attacking Altman’s home is awful but I think we will see far more of this sort of thing. If people believe the optimistic case for AI is they became part of the “permanent underclass” and the pessimistic case is they die they’ll lash out. Part of why that meme is horrible

The thing that I don’t get is why a 2nd Trump term was considered such an emergency in 2020 given how his first term was successfully subverted by Obama holdovers and the administrative state. Trump II in 2024 is a beast and nothing like what a Trump II in 2020 would have been.

I said this at the time: if the Democrats had just calmed tf down in 2020 and let Trump be a normal two-termer like all previous presidents going back to 1992, then he'd have been done in 2024 and Pence would have lost badly in the election that year. 2024-32 is the Amy Klobuchar Era (or whatever) in this scenario. Instead, by forcing the '20 election down a politically unnatural, excessively "tryhard" path (mail-ins, riots, etc), the Democrats manufactured what may wind up being a 16-year or even 20-year Trump Era, if Vance has success.
