
You're misreading the table. It doesn't say only 8,285 Africans were taken across the Atlantic. It says "Numbers of Africans embarked reported," meaning 8,285 voyage records have surviving records that report how many Africans were put on board. The whole table is about what information is available for each voyage. That's why it also says things like "Voyages with name of vessel" and "Voyages with name of captain." It's counting voyage records, not people. If 8,285 was the total number of Africans, that would mean less than one person per voyage across the 36,002 voyages in the database, which obviously makes no sense. You're confusing the number of voyage records with reported embarkation data with the total number of Africans transported. We are in the age of the uneducated, black Americans are doomed
