Messier 32 is a friend of a friend.
This galaxy orbits the Andromeda Galaxy, our Milky Way's closest major galactic neighbor.
M32 is one of two satellite galaxies orbiting Andromeda: go.nasa.gov/4b8JQiL
Welcome to Hubble's Messier Marathon: 2026 Edition! We're sharing new Hubble images of cosmic objects from the Messier catalog, compiled by French astronomer Charles Messier in the 1700s. Come back tomorrow for another new image, and catch up here ⬇️ go.nasa.gov/3P3syLn
M32 – the tiny but dense satellite of Andromeda, our closest big neighbor at ~2.5 million light-years.
Hubble's sharp view reveals its packed core blazing with old stars burning helium, plus a fun detail: astronomers think this compact elliptical might be the stripped-down remnant core of a once-larger spiral that tangled with Andromeda long ago.
Love these Messier Marathon gems! 🌌
@NASAHubble Incredible that M32 and M110 can both be seen with a backyard telescope under the right conditions, right next to the massive Andromeda Galaxy.
@NASAHubble So M32 is basically the Andromeda equivalent of a tiny moon, just... a whole galaxy. Space scale is broken lol. Wonder what its night sky would look like from inside M32?
