Canada ranks 15th in the 2024 world happiness index, down from 5th in 2015. For those under 30, Canada ranks 58th – one of the worst declines globally. Once the happiest group, they are now the least happy in Canada.

Canadians!!!. This is your Parliament on a confidence vote. Both sides of House with empty seats. Where are Cabinet Ministers & MPs? Virtual Parliament undermines the seriousness of debate & votes. Attendance on votes in Parliament should be compulsory.

Laureen and I are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of a great Canadian and valued friend and colleague, the Hon. Chuck Strahl. Chuck was an outstanding Minister of Agriculture, Transport, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and, a valued colleague at the Cabinet table.  An early ally in helping build our united Conservative Party, over the course of 18 years in Parliament he was a respected voice for his constituents and a tireless advocate for western Canada.     None who served with Chuck will ever forget his warm and personable character, natural talent as a communicator, and striking baritone voice. Chuck was also a man of abiding faith. His positivity shone through even as he navigated the toughest of challenges.      Chuck’s greatest legacy was his family, of which he was rightly proud. Debby, Karina, Mark, Loni, and Kyla – thank you for supporting Chuck through his many years of public service. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

As per the Rules for Half-masting the National Flag of Canada (Section 7), the flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments in the city of Chilliwack, British Columbia, will be flown at half-mast from now until sunset on August 19, 2024, in honour of the late Chuck Strahl, who passed away on August 13, 2024.   Additionally, the flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments in the city of Chilliwack, British Columbia, and the flag on the Peace Tower in Ottawa will fly at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on August 23, 2024, the day of the memorial service of the late Chuck Strahl. Last night, as Canadians began to celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend, Israelis were attacked by the terror group, Hamas. Today, as Canada wakes up to unspeakable images of terror, pain and war we must remain shoulder to shoulder with Israel as it responds to, and defends itself from, these criminal and cowardly acts of terror. To friends in Israeli and around the world, I hope you know that today and always, through fire and water, Canada will stand with you.
