It's a fair point. As a non-romantasy reader, is it frustrating trying to find the fantasy you like amongst it? Yes. But can you blame the publishers? No. I just wish there were distinctions between romantasy and epic fantasy for example so it was easier for everyone.
Kyle Lee@KyleLeeWriter

@TimAkers Romantasy sells, because the romance audience consistently shows up. Can't be mad at booksellers for promoting the things that sell. If hard SFF audiences showed up the same way, that's what they'd be promoting. Money drives everything.

Books are so cool. I had to pull these out again this morning - I think I spent most of 2025 gushing about how great they are, and I'm already itching to read them again.

I miss book Twitter circa 2020-2022. It was fun. People made friends. The community was THRIVING. Now it’s just bots, rage baiting, and people glazing the same 5 books over and over. And god forbid you dislike one of the popular books.

A SLEDGE MANIFESTO With the SLEDGE flick in the works and The Wendigo about to be unleashed, it’s easy to get hyped . . . but just as easy to feel the weight of expectation . . . and the fear of failure. Every time those evil thoughts creep in, I remind myself of this story: I’ve always been into underground, hardcore, badass sh;t. my first love was skateboarding, because it was illegal. through skating I found action, horror and metal, always searching for the most hardcore movie/book/band . . . In the late 80s, I found them. the ultimate badass band. too hardcore for radio. songs too long, too gnarly for MTV. their first album held a blood-covered hammer. their 2nd, a live execution. I LOVED them. because they were mine. no one else even knew their name. that’s what made them so badass. then 1991 hit and their new album had 3min songs all over the radio, with music videos to boot. suddenly all the girls in my middle school were into them. I immediately hated them. have ever since. because they aren’t mine any more. they aren’t badass. they sold out. they’re called Metallica. Sledge vs The Labyrinth is my Kill Em All. Sledge vs The Wendigo my Ride the Lighting. I don’t want SLEDGE on the bestseller lists. I love him exactly where he is. where he should be: underground, unrated, hardcore . . . BADASS. 🤘💀⚒️

@SledgevsBooks I read Sledge on a whim, I expected to leave it part-read like most books I start. Hooked immediately and all the way through. It felt defiant and strong. Ferocious and resilient against the way the world feels like it's going, against the current state of publishing.

If you use AI to write your books and make your covers, you're not an indie author. You're not any type of author. You're a thief. And you're potentially stealing from actual hard working indie authors.
⚔️LordTBR_FFA⚔️@LordTBR_FFA

I’m genuinely curious: How is it not embarrassing to reach out to a reviewer, praise them for championing indies, ask for a review of a book or series, and be wholly inundated with AI from the book covers to your own profile on Amazon. AI “creators” are getting lazy.

🐉 Dragons 🐲 Missed flat lay Friday, but eh. I can’t think of anything better in a fantasy novel than a dragon. Who is your favorite dragon from media or literature?

@Siennafrst Looking at the synopsis, how does the author handle a main character who's "killed, he's robbed, and he's burned more homesteads than he can count to the ground with their families inside."? Sounds like a challenge!

Characterization: 7/10. It’s not flawed bc everyone stays IC, and they’re distinctive enough. But this being a very short, plot driven novel where everything is condensed and informations are hidden on top of it being written in 1st, you will not be reading this for the characterization. There isn’t room for it. Not for what the author is trying to achieve.
