4 feiten die in het Nakba-debat structureel ontbreken: 1) 1948 was een oorlog, geen vacuüm. De vluchtelingencrisis ontstond in een overlevingsoorlog nadat Arabische legers de pas uitgeroepen Joodse staat aanvielen. 2) De Nakba was niet onvermijdelijk. De Arabische zijde wees het VN-verdelingsplan af. Acceptatie had oorlog en vluchtelingencrisis kunnen voorkomen. 3) Het verhaal is complexer dan “Israël verdreef iedereen”. Een deel vluchtte uit angst, chaos of na expliciete oproepen van Arabische leiders om tijdelijk te vertrekken in afwachting van Arabische overwinning. 4) Er was ook een Joodse vluchtelingencrisis. Ruim 850.000 Joden vluchtten/werden verdreven uit Arabische landen, geïntegreerd in Israël, maar werden geïntegreerd, niet generaties lang in vluchtelingenkampen gehouden.

On May 14 1948, Israel declared independence, 8h before the termination of the British Mandate for Palestine Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi, Yemen & Morocco attacked Israel the next day but lost the Arab-Israeli War, which came to an end on March 10th 1949.
