@SciGuardians @ScienceMagazine You are tweeting BS again. Dr. Thorp is correct. Peer reviewers are not expected to catch fraud - that is a job for specialists (although they should catch some obvious stuff). It's not a confession! It is just realistic. /

Long read: The Trump administration’s proposals to eviscerate the NIH and NSF have been overturned in Congress after a year of cancelled programmes and legal wrangling. Google translation of 1 section. "The debate began...when biochemist David Sanders,in a post published on "Retraction Watch,"called for the article's retraction:"Erroneous data, distorted data, inconclusive data, contamination. Game over." @LifeAtPurdue @PurdueSCBB @PurdueBiolSci

An article in French describes the history that led to the retraction of the #arsenicbacteria rubbish paper in Science and my role in that outcome. aoc.media/analyse/2026/0…

Long read: The £2 million recently awarded to a whistleblower by a US court is a rare reward for the volunteers who trawl the scientific literature for error and fraud. Yet their numbers continue to grow. So what drives them? And can their efforts ever cleanse more than a drop in a troubled ocean? @jgro_the reports timeshighereducation.com/depth/scientif…

We are currently reviewing the Accelerate Indiana Municipal (AIM) 2026 Policy Platform. They are supporting something new to us: -Sales Tax Increment Financing (Sales TIF) -Income Tax Increment Financing (Income TIF) AIM is backing a financing approach similar to traditional TIF, but instead of using property taxes, it leverages future sales or income taxes generated by a new development to help fund the project itself. Taxes are not increased. The government redirects new tax revenue from the project back into the project. HOWEVER, this method is less visible to the public than traditional property-tax TIF. ALSO, it makes it harder for residents to track. It is used only in a few specialized districts around the country. SAUCE: aimindiana.org/wp-content/upl…
