@EvenRouault @gdaltips How deep can the vrt inlining go? Could you nest another vrt within the vrt defined in CDATA?

For multiple input data files, you could do gdal_translate to the VRT output format too but it takes only one input dataset. gdalwarp can take more then just one input data file. gdalwarp -of VRT *.tif output.vrt
