This Brant needs rescuing. This dark-looking brant (? vagrant Brant) was seen at Calvert Vaux Park this morning not moving much. We thought it has a broken wing. After further reviewing the videos, we notice a line rapping around it. Check between 1:20 and 1:30. Video by Gus Keri
@Napnyc1Napnyc (just a question) - are we sure this is a Cooper's Hawk? This is looking like a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk (or possibly even a Broad-winged Hawk juvenile) to @DAllenNYC and me...@FastMiler David Barrett what do you think?
Congratulations to @edu_birding on finding this rare PILEATED WOODPECKER in @RiversideParkNY near 86th Street earlier this morning, likely the park's first confirmed record of this species.

@BirdCentralPark We have been checking the nearby area for forty minutes and so far no refind. Of course, these woodpeckers can be nearly undetectable when they want to be, and they will search for best habitat.
The Central Park BARRED OWL stayed through the snow, and is now resting and showing some floof atop the hemlock tree west of and up the hill from the Boathouse.
The Carl Schurz WESTERN TANAGER has flown off, and so must I. It is likely to return, reports @EdwardGaillard, having been seen in the park in recent days.

I was a drop-everything moment when we heard about the American Golden-Plover (a hatch-year bird) on Randall's Island during the @BirdingBobNYC walk. Thanks @Lucent508 for finding the bird and getting the word out and @FastMiler for the i.d. that prompted 3 of us to run over.
