I finally found an owl! Not on Long Island, but in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Ferruginous Pygmy Owl !

@kjk11231 @Fpimentel14 @BirdQueens there is no parking area nearby- post office is a mile away along a narrow road with no sidewalk-birders have been idling their cars in the street with hazard lights on

A roseate spoonbill decided to feed in the marsh near me in Mill Neck!!!!!!!!!

Though I’m happy that Fall migration has started at CentralPk, it has resurfaced an ugly side to birding. While some birders are friendly and will share tips on spotting birds, I’ve had icy stares and no replies by others who only talk to those in their “circle” #birdcpp #birding

I am now officially hummingbird crazy- I increased my feeders from 3 to 6 today- the rainy Sunday kept me inside all day staring at my hummingbirds learning the markings of 4 individuals that I have names for

@BirdingBobNYC @alexcritelli7 I saw humpback whales feeding for an hour from the beach in fire island 2 weeks ago- and there was a smaller fin I could not identify- maybe blue shark!

@alexcritelli7 The fish are Moss Bunker! That is why all these whales are now in the area (summering for the last 10+ years); often younger Humpback whales...but look for Blue Sharks as well

I discovered this hummingbird nest a few doors down from me- I hope I get to see baby hummingbirds in a week or 2.
