Yes the more you digest how the ‘instinct vs intellect’ battle resulted in humans’ psychologically upset state, the clearer it becomes that, in the extreme, that upset produces very dysfunctional behaviour. However, what is so utterly exonerating and psychologically healing about our ability to now understand this is that we can finally appreciate that there was a very good — indeed heroic — reason for our selfish, destructive, egocentric behaviour. Certainly there are countless variations of human behaviour, but multiple related phenomena may have a single source – in psychology this is described as multifinality. And so we suggest that we can now see that all our behaviour is a manifestation of a deep rooted insecurity about our self-worth, and what’s more, that this insecurity is a result of a clash between our pre-established instincts and emerging conscious mind. In short, our pre-established instincts ‘criticised’ our emerging conscious mind’s experiments in self-management, and without the defence for why it had to search for knowledge, the conscious mind became insecure. And so despite the almost endless manifestations of the human condition, having this core mystery and problem about human behaviour solved ends all the conflict and suffering in human life at its source. To your point regarding Thomas More and his work 'Utopia'; with the benefit of Jeremy Griffith's explaination of the human condition, we can now understand the fundamental reason why people want more than they need; we can now understand the source of our greed, and more generally, materialism. When the conscious mind went in search of knowledge a conflict between our instinct and intellect broke out, leading to an undeserved sense of guilt and insecurity that caused us to become psychologically defensive, angry, alienated and egocentric — the 'upset' state we refer to as the human condition, a state we sought to alleviate through a competitive, selfish and aggressive bid for the reinforcement we could gain from winning power, fame, fortune and glory. This is the underlying source of our greed. Thomas More correctly described that utopia (the end of greed and selfishness) was a fantasy while we suffered the 'upset' state of the human condition. In his book FREEDOM, at par 840, Griffith explains that when we die we don’t live on in any physical sense but we do live on in spirit, to quote: ‘…it can be understood that all human effort since time immemorial has been meaningful. Humans can now understand that each and every human life is extraordinarily significant and that their efforts on Earth, the real essence of their being, do carry on and endure. The spirit of humans, the enormous courage that they have exhibited on the journey to enlightenment through the incredible darkness, loneliness and hardship of having to live in denial, lives on in each of us and is carried on in all subsequent generations.’ This is also explained in more detail in Jeremy’s book A Species In Denial, see section titled ‘Afterlife explained’ humancondition.com/asid-afterlife… . Et affirmer qu’il n’y a RIEN après la mort démontre la volonté du chercheur d’imposer son opinion. Je crois, à titre personnel, que nous sommes des énergies extérieures au corps physique qui ne disparaissent pas avec la mort, mais sont récupérées par l’univers qui nous a créés. Par conséquent, il y a une vie après la mort. Voilà !
