These movements were pseudo idealistic movements that stifled and oppressed the search for the understanding of our corrupted condition that was needed to actually free us from that state. They were regressive, not progressive as they deluded themselves they were. In case it helps, WTM FAQ 1.16 explains, the very nature of the human condition means discussion of it can be initially difficult to access. This is because historically the issue of whether we are fundamentally good or bad has been the most terrifying of all subjects to face, and so we have necessarily lived in almost total denial of it, which means our minds can initially struggle to hear and absorb discussion about it. @FixTheWorldOrg I tried listening to this the waffle for the first 10-15 minutes ..stopped me listening reaching any conclusions perhaps some one else cld interview him and make it a more concise bullet point. It may very well be the most important thing but if one can’t withstand the prelude ?.

If we stand back and think about this original cooperative, selfless and loving state and then think about how competitive, selfish and aggressive we humans are now, the contrast between the two states couldn’t be greater. And if we think about that extreme contrast and then think about the situation we have been stuck in for some 2 million years where we haven’t been able to explain our so-called ‘fall from grace’, the corruption of our original all-sensitive and all-loving, innocent instinctive self or soul, then how deeply traumatised with guilt and shame must we humans have been all that time! Certainly, we learnt to block the horror of this situation out of our mind, but that has been the underlying psychological predicament we humans have been enduring. So having had to live with this insufferable, unbearably depressing guilt and shame for having destroyed the magic world of our soul is what the human condition really is!”

Yes the more you digest how the ‘instinct vs intellect’ battle resulted in humans’ psychologically upset state, the clearer it becomes that, in the extreme, that upset produces very dysfunctional behaviour. However, what is so utterly exonerating and psychologically healing about our ability to now understand this is that we can finally appreciate that there was a very good — indeed heroic — reason for our selfish, destructive, egocentric behaviour.
